Default Question about aftermarket external fuel filters.....

Can someone explain to me why you need an expensive stainless steel element on the sunction side of a fuel pump? There is hardly any pressure on the sunction side....and i just dont see the logic?

someone explain it to me please <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks for the TTT...i friend gave me a good explanation here:

Weldon pumps are gravity fed, they can`t suck fuel very well. The paper filter is way too restrictive to let gas pass thru it with no pressure to push it. Bob from Weldon told me to use a numerically higher than 100 micron filter before it (metal mesh is around 240 mic.)and a 10 micron filter after it.It has plenty of stregnth push thru the paper. I had a paper filter before it and would lose fuel pressure after about an hour driving around as it would starve the pump.Since switching filters,no more pressure drop and it isn`t as noisy. One of these days I`ll get the voltage controller to slow down the pump while cruising since the engine doesn`t need that much volume under those conditions
Myself,Tory and Don B. have our pumps/filters set up as per Bob at Weldon.
