Default Pics of custom air intake installed!

Finally got around to installing intake that I got from Tranzam00. Here are some pics:

It's a different look than just a lid, costs a lot less than Volants, and is a better design. You just have to do some cutting to get it on.

Not bad but how is that a better design than the volant? I agree its cheaper but isnt the volant blocked off so air has to go straight to the filters? Im not being a dick im just asking.

The temp? sensor for the volant is outside the intake, so it just reads the ambient temp of the engine bay, not the tem of the air going thru the intake. With this design, the sensor inside, just like in the stock intake. Read his thread and he describes it more in detail. It made sense to me, plus it is different and cool looking. Hope that helps.

Actually it took about 3 hrs of cutting and dremmelling to get it to fit. BMR makes a stainless steel cover to go there that looks much better. But until I get around to detailing the engine bay, I didn't see the need to spend $90. As you can tell from the pics, my bay does not get cleaned often. For now, it is a function over form thing.

Glad that Tranzam00 didnt waste his time by replying to my PM when I was inquireing about his system. Cuz I wouldnt have even considered that. Sorry dude. I dont buy that that is better than the Volant setup. If the IAT location is the only factor, a drilled hole is alot simpler than what you had to cut!

It doesn' t look too bad. I' d roll with it, until I could find a little more dough. Have you been able to tell a difference? I have been looking for something like that, so I can get some cold air, but didn' t want to cut the radiator support sheetmetal. That upper support is a lot cheaper to replace, if you even feel the need to, for sure though.

Hope it works for ya'.

I have to agree with MavrikTA. I have a Volant intake for my WS6. The IAT sensor doesn't dangle inside the engine bay. So it's not as if it's sitting inside the engine bay monitoring engine bay temps. The sensor mounts through the back side of the box and sits inside the box. I doubt very seriously that the temps inside the intake tube are that much different than the temps inside the box (particularly at speed).

But... if having the IAT inside the intake tube is important, it's not hard to simply drill a small hole in the Volant intake tube, stick a rubber grommet in it, pull the IAT sensor wire a little futher inside the box and stick it in the new hole. Some people have already done it.

radz282003: Yes you can tell a difference. It feels like it wants to go a lot faster. My dyno #s after install - 318 rwhp/330rwtq. This is the only mod done. I did not have a before dyno run. So if you know what a stock Ram Air dynos, then you can figure the difference.

Keep in mind, this intake is $200 less than the Volant. And even after the chrome radiator support cover, it is still $100 less than the Volant, and even with the Volant you might still want to go with the chrome cover. I would have done the Volant if I hadn't stumbled across this.

Geez you paid that much for maybe a 1/4 of that in materials. Im sure it works great though, and you guys have to look at the cutting of the box as weight reduction!

I paid 285 shipped for my Volant so the difference is only about 80. But either way, if it works, roll with it. Gotta give you points for originality!

I think i would like my volant setup also... looks alot better and even if your setup has any kind of gain...its not enough of one to make the engine bay look that bad... just my opinion.

Just get you a polished radiator support from one of the sponsors and you will be good to go. It will look a lot cleaner! I'm not sure who carries them, though.
