Default Exhaust experts within, please!!

Is there no such thing as a Flowmaster 3" to 3.5" Y-collector? All I'm seeing are 2.5" to 3.5". What's the deal? My Y-pipe will be 3", not 2.5". What can I do?

Also, which merge collectors could I buy that would replace (and offer more performance than) the ones that come with the Hooker longtubes?

TIA.

If its posiible it would be best to run 3"y to 4" and through a 4" mufflex cat back. You can use a reducer to get the y from 4" to 3.5".

Well, I bought Hooker long-tubes and am planning on getting a custom Y-pipe done. What diamater is the header where it goes into the Y-pipe? I assumed it was 3". Was I mistaken?

Someone else posted that there is little advantage to using merge collectors on a full exhaust. I would just leave the straight collectors.

Mufflex makes a ypipe for the hooker longtubes that uses a flowmaster 2 3" in and 1 4" out y collector. Its like $280. It should work for any cat back as long as you get a reducer to decrease the size from 4" to 3".

All right, guys, check it out. I plan on dumping the exhaust before the axles using one Dynomax bullet muffler. This is the setup I had before and it sounded loud, deep, and just overall had a great muscle car tone. And of course, you can't hardly beat that setup for power and weight savings.

Previous setup details:

 • Grotyohann long-tubes

 • Grotyohann 3" off-road Y-pipe (yes, the crappy one)

 • Custom 3" I-pipe w/ one 12" long, 3"-in, 3"-out Dynomax bullet muffler turned down before axles

This setup rocked. I guess what I'd like to do is turn the 2 3" stems of the Y-pipe into 1 3.5" (or 4") stem, and then doing a 3.5" (or 4") I-pipe, etc. It's loud, but it sounds good, and it's gotta perform better than ANY catback.

Should be a very efficient set for max hp. A couple of ways you can do this. Buy the ypipe from mufflex thats made for hooker long tubes or you can just by the flowmaster collector and have a custom y made.

The Mufflex y has 2 3" mandrel bent tubing into flowmaster y collector with a 4" out. You can run the Y into a 4" bullit with turn down. The 4" bullit is just as big externally as the 3.5" bullit so it should fit just as well.

If space is available you can run an ultraflo muffler which is quieter than the bullet along with being heavier.

When you put this monster exhaust together you got post a sound clip. Not just a clip with rev in neutral, a clip running a couple of gears up to the redline.

RAGEman, my setup is similar to what you're building. Grotts with custom y-pipe....3 1/2 to 4" back. Flowmaster collector. Here's a couple of pics and an idle sound clip.

Great info, gentlemen. Now, I'm going to throw a huge wrench into things. I recently saw a post where an individual is making 3" X-junctions for our cars. I may purchase one of these and pay a trusted local exhaust shop to build 2 3" pipes to get the header collectors to the X-junction and then purchase 2 Dynomax bullets and do 2 turndowns before the axles. How about that? I realize that pretty much negates all that we just talked about, but I'd like some feedback on this. Thanks again, guys.

Actually, the true dual with x-pipe is what I originally set out to do. But it couldn't be done with the Spohn torque arm brace that I have, so I went with a free flowing traditional y-pipe setup.

Sounds nasty!!, I'm running Hooker longtubes to Mufflex ypipe to bullet muffler with turndown. The sound is unbelievable!

If you don't mind loud, the custom pipe and the Dynomax racing muffler on my car produces the deepest sound I have heard on a 346.
