Best power adder? What is the concensus on the best overall power adder for the 346?
Nitrous?
Supercharger?
Turbo?
Maybe just all motor?
Which overall makes the best power, most reliably on our cars? Price is also an issue (N/A is expensive!)

Re: Best power adder? if price is an issue nitrous is definently the best. turbos and superchargers run upwards of 4-5k easily while a complete nitrous system including window switches and other safety stuff is only about 1100.
Re: Best power adder? Nitrous is always the best bang for the buck...when done correctly. The NOS 5177 kit is a very good kit for our cars. With a window switch and a bottle heater you can safely add 100 rwhp for under $800.

Re: Best power adder? You do not have a really big chance of blowing up your motor. Let's go into a little lesson about nitrious. The very word means nitrogen and oxygen. Oxygen adds power, everone knows that. but, all the nitrogen does is freeze and cool the O2. So, in essence you are pounding in dense cold air to your engine. Where all the explosions come in is when morons think they hook it uop right, and do nothing to compensate for fuel. If you blow a ton of air into the engine, it makes you run lean, which makes you burn **** fast! So please, make sure you address the fuel issue. Furthermore, the LS1 is a remarkably powerful and strong engine. If done correctly (take no offense, but it does not seem that you would be the one to hook it up) it can safely spray 100-125 shot through the engine and have no trouble. TBI injection is always the way top go with nitrious, but I am not aware if they have that kind of kit for the LS1 because I have not yet addressed the nitrious option for my car.

For our cars, is it best to run wet or dry?
Running 100 shot, how often would I have to change the spark plugs? Do they foul easy?
Which kit is the best? Which one will shut off nitrous if fuel pressure is too low? I know a bunch do, but what is the concensus on the best kit for our cars?
Funny how so far everyone has only recommended nitrous, and not a blower or turbo, or just heads/cam.

I think you can't really look at bang for the buck... it's what are your long term goals?

Re: Best power adder? Ok, first things first. I would personally NEVER hook up and kind of forced induction until I have done heads cam. No way. With JUST heads cam, you can make around 410 RWHP from a good porting and polishing job and a cam that has the specs around .563/.563 and 224/224. That is a monster cam, and you have ana amzing sounding idle. If the car is auto, you NEED a 2800+ stall. Anyways, back to the nitrious. If you are going to do it, read about all of the options you have. Wet is the best way. Like I said, if you can, get the TBI injection which injects the nitrous at the throttle body. A tech at the dealership I work has 4 cars that are on the bottle and has never ruined any engine part due to nitrious and he has them all hooked up on this system. Secondly, get an ELECTRONIC fuel pressure gauge and learn to read that like your tach. You should not need new injectors or fuel pump, maybe just a fuel system cleaning and you for sure need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Pontiac and Chevy say that the plugs that come in the LS1 are 100,000 mile plugs. Horseshit. Replace them every 40-50K miles anyways, if hooked up properly, the only think nitrious will breka on your caris the 11 second barrier. =)

Re: Best power adder? First...what cam are you thinking about? Second, I have a TR224 cam with a 5177 100 dry-shot that fricken kicks ***. Dry is the way to go with the LS1/OBD-II setup, because if your injectors are sized correctly the computer adjusts the amount of fuel needed ....it is that simple. You do need to tune the engine NA to make sure you are running at least 13.1 A/F. I did install SVO 30# injectors to help maintain a max. 80% duty. I feel I could run a 150 shot without any worries now. The backfires and blown intakes are from improper setup with a wet system. You have to guess the nozzle combination, which will change with the weather, etc. BTW, our intake is "dry" for a reason.....wet setup will produce puddling and then possible <img border="0" alt="[kaboom]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bomb.gif" />
Yes a wet system will produce more hp for the same size nozzle.....but believe me that the dry system is overall the best setup for our engines!

Re: Best power adder? People have run 10's with just cam and nitrous. People rave about the hot cam being a great nitrous cam but just about any cam will do. Cant beat the price of the hot cam and since this is all about bang for the buck, hot cam with nitrous is about the cheapest way to go.

Re: Best power adder? I got my 98' Z28 with 39,000 miles. made my own "knock off" of the NOS "dry" kit (usng only one nozzle) at 40,000 miles. Now i'm at 82,000 miles and still running strong. I have sprayed well over 15 bottles through it and the only thing i have tore up is the stock clutch and two stock rearends (3,500 RPM nitrous launches on Nitto DR's).

The ls1motorsports kit looks so tempting, but at $6499, it'll be a while until I can save up to afford it.
Has anyone ran nitrous over and over on a stock motor with cam, and been safe? I've heard of way too many problems of melting pistons, and backfiring and blowing the intake off the heads...
