Default Directions for Changing Plugs

I know, I know. I can't get any easier.

BUT, does anyone have a link to a plug change write up? I'll be doing it tomorrow. I'm at 40,000 miles and I've never changed the plugs yet. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />
I'm pinging really badly over 5,000rpms. I'm hoping this'll take care of it. It's a step in the right direction if not.

Try this:

Click on "Install Documents" then look for the plug and wire change link. This are the instructions that gave me the courage to try it the first time. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

1 extra tip: You're most likely going to need new foil gaskets for the AIR tubes if you remove them. They rip apart very easily.

Here's a tip I forgot, stick a shop rag into the motor mount, if a plug drops into the mount you'll wish you had....I know. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />

Also, remember that since you have a '00, #8 is easiest from underneath...

your first time is PITA. After that you run the tips and tricks to help. If you have to get on the engine to help reach a plug easier then do it. ive gotten #8 from the top once with nothing removed but the AIR thingy. But now i take the last 2 coil packs off and its simple for me from the top. whole job takes about 30mins tops compared to 60 mins my first time <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Thanks guys. The job got pushed back until tomorrow (Sunday). Hopefully all goes well. I wonder if there will be any SOTP difference or if the pinging will stop. 40,000 miles, about 50 1/4 mile runs, and endless WOT highway punches have got to ruin the OEM plugs.

Another thing you can do to help stop the pinging is to "give it a drink". When carbon builds up in the LS1 chambers, it ups compression and causes pinging. What you do is get about a pint of water in a cup with a straw. Pull the vacuum line off of the brake booster while someone helps you by holding the engine up off of idle (about 2,500 or 3,000 rpms). Then let the vacuum hose suck a little water at a time out of the straw. Frequently take the straw away and let the engine run clear, then put the straw back. This will safely "steam clean" the chambers and remove the carbon. I do it about every 10k miles to keep them clean.

No disrespect intended but that just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I would think avoiding water intake is top priority. I've heard of some top end cleaners out there though.
