I have a slp lid with a k&n air filter. I have the gasket installed around the rim of my lid and it is steal allowing crap past the filter and getting to my maf sensor. Everytime I open the thing up there is piece of grass and bugs on my maf sensor! Someone tell me something I can do to seal this thing off once and for all! If I buy a holley filter will I not have to worry about this at all? I am starting to think its the lid thats not sealing? PLease help me out.

To see if it's the lid that's not sealing I would install the stock filter, if you don't find anything getting by the filter then it's the K&N. The problem is you'll need to remove the K&N gasket when installing the stock filter, once you remove the gasket it never sticks well enough again. Check to see if the lids front clips are tight and the lids sitting in the proper place in the rear. In re-reading your post I'm not sure what you mean by "gasket installed around the rim of the lid ", maybe you have it installed wrong. I'm not really sure why anyone today would buy a K&N filter when there's the Holley that fits without that POS gasket like the K&N needs?

You could just go to your local home supply store and get a thicker weather striping with a adhesive back and replace the one K&N sent ya. Thats what I did. When it gets better out here I am going to put a nice uniform bead of RTV around the lid in place of the gasket.

Just my 2 Pennys

I bought the k&n filter because I didnt know it had a gasket and I thought it was a better filter, but I guess not. The tabs any everything and sealed down good and I think the lid is sealing pretty good. When I said I had the gasket installed on the lip of the lid I have it on the underside of the lid around the edges of it. Is it supposed to go somewhere else? What would happen if I tried my old air filter with the gasket on the same thing? Also tell me what you did with your weather striping. Thanks so far with yur help everyone keep it coming.

My lid ( stock one ) was letting trash in at the back of the lid on the bottom where the neck of the lid and the "hood' of the lid conected. We stuck some A/C duct tape on the out side of the lid in that spot and molded it all in. Has'nt leaked since.

The problem you could have with the gasket and stock filter is it will be too tight, that could cause you problem but then again maybe it won't. One problem with using the gasket or weather stripping is over time it can break down, if that happens there's a good chance will it get sucked into the MAF ( and that's not good ).

It's your sh234y SLP lid. I got one also, and it started flaring up on both sides, letting unfiltered air and crap into my intake. I slapped the blackwing back on, and problem solved. Get a Whisper lid.

I see in another post you don't want to change your filter, here's something you can try. Remove the lid and see if the K&N filter seal is making contact with the gasket on the lid, you may notice in some places it's not making contact with the gasket. Remove the filter from the tray and apply weather striping around the air filter tray, that should raise the filter up enough to where it seals against the lid gasket.

I know this sounds really stupid man but I am going to ask anyway. From what I understood from your post I should apply weather striping in the tray but where exactly should I be putting it? Just cant picture where I am putting the weather striping. Thanks alot for your help.

OK, you will be buying the foam weather stripping with a adhesive backing from Lowes or any other place{heck WallMart even has it at times}. It's about a 1/4 inch to 3/8ths of a inch thick or so. Buy a couple of different thicknesses to play with. You will be putting it where the K@N gasket contacts the lid., just along the inner edge. Open it up and look at it-you will figure it out. When you get it on there are a couple of ways to test a air yight seal. First way is to take a cigarette {anything that smokes} and light it and run it along the lid to see if the smoke is sucked between the lid and base. Second-you can take a small thin tool{knife, piece of hard thin plastic whatever} to "feel" your way around. Also, you can put a little talcum powder on the lid's sealing surface and install the lid. Take it back off and inspect the sealing area. You are looking to make sure the gasket rubbed the powder from the lid when it compresses.

I also just installed an SLP lid, and it is lifted up in the back and I was worried it wasn't sealing and was looking for a good, safe way to check.I did the cigar test, and no smoke was pulled in, even while revving. Great Idea!
The round part of the lid(that goes to the MAF) is hitting on my lower airbox.Pewter_99Transam, lift up your lid and look, I bet there is a mark where the lid is hitting on the lower. Looks like the SLP lid is angled too much, or that part is too thick.

just a thought but check the fit of the MAF and the lid. When I was installing my MTI lid I noticed that where the MAF actually slides into the lid there was a very small gap . I used a piece of emblem adheisive to make a gasket and seal it up.

I'll keep an eye on it in case the seal shrinks over time.(stupid question) did you put a new foam seal on when you changed lids?
