Tricks for keeping header bolts tight?
I just installed Mac headers and Y-pipe on my 99 SS, and I'am having trouble with keeping the bolts tight. Does anyone have a solution that worked for them? Also I read somewhere that these headers can make a ticking noise under acceleration, They do make this noise but is it an exhaust leak or actually a noise they these headers make?

Stage 8 Locking header bolts. They are kind of a pian but might work. About once a month I get in mine with a wrench and just check to make sure everything ia staying tight. I have yet to get any header leaks with the bolts FLP provided with thier kit

As far as your ticking noise goes, you need to do this: http://riptide63.homestead.com/restrictor.html

Re: Tricks for keeping header bolts tight?
For SBCs you can get all kinds of header
bolts, ones with safety wire holes, keeper
clips, etc. I dunno how the aftermarket
is for LS1 fasteners yet.
Bolts backing out and bolts getting loose
from gasket crush are two different issues,
you should see which is going on. Even
some high temp loctite would solve the former.
The latter, you just have to keep tightening
until the gasket quits crushing.

Re: Tricks for keeping header bolts tight?
I just use the existing bolts for the manifolds for my Grotts and never had a problem. I just tightened until I thought they were snug enough, I didn't torque them or anything.
