Putting In Qtp Headers Now!! Need Help!! Hey guys im in the middle of putting in the driver side header. Passenger side went in really well but the driver side is killin us. We removed the oil filter but we're having difficulty. The car is jacked up wayyy high so the ground isnt an issue. Can someone plz offer some advice or methods? Thanks alot. Need the info asap!
Some people have mentioned that they had to disconnect the steering linkage, but I've also heard others say this isn't necessary. Got the plugs out, right? Where are you hitting?
It's right above that, looks like a rectangle, just something to do with the casting

Keep at it, eventually you'll get it in. I was getting hung up on the block of metal sticking out, I was ready to take more drastic measures, I was getting pissed and had to stop for a beer.
After a break I went back at it. When I finally got it in, I think I had the header almost standing straight up and down. I was fussing around for a while, somehow it got past the metal block and up and in she went.
FWIW I did not have to grind the metal tab or remove the steering linkage.

ok, well we gave up for the day at like 8... we're starting up again tomorrow. Ill try some of the things you all recommended. Thanks alot for the help... sucks though cause the headers have alot of scratches and black markings 
can those be repolished by any chance? or are they there to stay?

The driver side is the one that is the hardest. You have to pretty much turn the header and almost put it in vertical. You just have to work with it and make sure you get the car up high enough or you will never get it in.

can those be repolished by any chance? or are they there to stay? yes they are polished... ok thats good to hear that the markings will come off, any idea what i should use to get them off? obviously water and a rag doesnt work... lol. but i know there are some chemicals not to use on headers.
i had to actually unbolt my motor and jack it up some for my qtp to slide in but i think my car is alittle out of whack,i shouldn't of had to done that.alittle grinding and some elbow grease it should go in,maybe.
we are at it again... jacking up the motor mount didnt work so we're gonna jack the car up even more and try to put the header in vertically... any more suggestions? This doest seem like it should be this hard...

if you cant put it striaght up.. it aint goin in
I got my 1-7/8" ones in without unbolting the motor (did have to take out steering linkage.. but thats really easy 2bolts)
Trust me, it looks impossible till you get it to go straight up
My jack stands WERE NOT high enough and they are the tallest ones craftsman makes!! You may have ot get inventive

WE GOT THEM IN!! and it wasnt vertically, lol. We had to cut a part of the frame... i think it was the frame. I will post pics.. the frame will be welded back on so no harm done. Anyways, thanks for all the help guys, will post pics when i can.
Congrats! The only headers I've worked with were coated, so I'm not positive, but because yours are just polished stainless, you should be able to use some kind of abrasive to take the scratches out. You would want to start with something coarse, like a very coarse steel wool, if the scratches are bad. Work your way up from there, each progressive finer abrasive removes the scratches from the previous, until you get so fine that it almost looks like a mirror. Obviously, if the rest of the headers aren't mirror finish, then stop before you get to that point. Definitely see what others have to say though, like I said, I haven't worked with stainless headers yet...soon though.
