Everybody with aftermarket Tachs come inside......
I'm just wondering what the most popular tach and shiftlight is for our cars. Where is the best place to mount it? I just need alittle feedback before I buy one. Thanks alot.

Autometer 5" with big shiftlite...
Can mount...
-driver's side pillar, right next to it
-on steering column
-in the middle above the radio
Here is a pic of mine, I will be moving it to the steering column or selling it over the winter I'd like it to be a little less noticed (I am in my 30's:

I just got my autometer pt#6811. 5 inch with recall, pro comp 2. I talked to autometer and they said there are no cal. problems if you hook it up right. First set the car up for 4cyl. operation and then splice into the white wire on the #10 pin on your computer. BTW. Dont quote me on that because I havent even found the right wire yet and dont even really know where to look.

If you look under the hood right in front of the passenger side dash you will see a huge bundle of wires. that's where you'll find the wire you need. The 98's are differant though if that happens to be what you have. I think 98's is #35...still a white wire though.

Hey jsears8...any close up pics of the install. I don't want to drill any holes but I don't want to have wires hanging everywhere either.

I ran all the wires threw the dash and out through the front defrost (the one in the middle of the dash). Then used some double sided tape and it stays right there with no holes. Sorry I don't have a pic to show you.

You have to put the tach in 4cyl. mode for it to read properly.

There is an install document over at www.installuniversity.com that shows how to install a shift light. Do the exact same thing for the tach and make sure you set it to 4 cylinder mode. I e-mail Summitt about the voltage thing and having to get a tach reprogrammed for an LS1 and they told me you don't need to do anything like that, just set it to 4 cylinder mode. I plan on getting the silver sport comp tach #3911 too like JSears

Harlan shift light in the defroster ring on the A-pillar and an Autometer 3 3/4 tach mounted on the steering wheel column. Fits perfect (speedo, temp, and oil pressure gauges still visible)in there and doesn't advertise to thieves. I've seen the 5" monster tach mounted in the same place but it's really jammed in there. I didn't want to mount it on the dash since people like to break into cars for stereos, radar detectors, etc. I figured why give them something else to look for.

Re: Everybody with aftermarket Tachs come inside......
I have the autometer 5" Silver tach, #3911 i believe. i mounted it all the way to the left on the dash. I drilled 2 holes and then super glued it. Sounds ghetto, but it looks really nice IMO. I ran all the wires through the pillar and then to the fuse box (when u open the driver side door) and then the tach wire, i spliced into it under the engine bay.
