? on STEEL header gaskets!!!!!

Putting on a pair of Hooker LT and i have the steel GM gaskets. Do i need to coat them with anything, or nothing, ones that came out did not seem to have anything on them.

Is there a "left" and "right" steel header gasket or are do you use the same part number for both sides?

It looks like you could just flip the passenger one upside down and it would fit the driver side. However I think the gaskets indicate which side is up and which side should be against the engine.
