Default SLP Smooth bellow

i was wondering if its worth it? its on sale for 44 dollars and it claims a 5 horsepower increase,,, every little bit counts, but if any less than 5, is it worth buying? i don't want to buy the cheaper ones, i think they are not made for LS1 cars, i have read so many posts that they always pop off,,, this slp smooth bellow, does it pop off? people with these, give me some advice, or anybody who knows about them

Thanks,

Justin

Go here to get the same hose for $12.80.
I have the Fernco on mine... ~$5, I have never had trouble with it "popping off", or trouble with anything about it for that matter. I would buy the other hose, but I didn't find out about it until after I had the Fernco. Oh, well... can't win them all, but I won't be taken for $50 for a cheap hose.

ratio411's idea is spot on. I have the Hump hose and it is the same as the SLP one just 30 bucks cheaper. I would recommend the hump hose to anybody. no heating up and it has the all important "rib" for flexibility.

The rib is there to prevent "suck in".

Question--- is the Hump Hose Reducer 4" to 3.5"
the same size as the SLP bellows and do you have to cut it at all to make it fit? I bought that baker ($40) pos and sent that thing right back! I need a new bellows for my nitrous line to go in.

The only difference i can tell is that its a different material,,, slp has "This bellows is constructed of high quality, fiberglass-reinforced silicone"

and then the other one is "This black rubber bellows adapter connects a 4" air pipe to a 3" air pipe. Used in some Chevy Camaro and Corvette applications."

my question is, why did slp use a higher quality of material? has to be reason, other than to charge more money,,, maybe for better flex while the engine moves on its mounts?

...can you paint rubber? i do want to dress up my engine bay, maybe buying the 12 dollar one and painting it

thanks

I have the SLP Smooth bellows. I purchased it with my SLP MAF and installed them at the same time. I actually lost power after installing them because I ran so lean. I got that fixed now and those mods helped a little bit (seat of the pants). I dont have any dyno numbers to back my claims up though.

If I was going to bet on it, I would say that it was the SLP MAF that I noticed any changes from. The MAF is what made me run lean untill I tuned with a-tap and MAFT.

I highly doubt the bellows gained any HP at all. SLP claims 5 HP but I call BS on that one. Its basically a $50 addition to your mod list and it looks much nicer than the stock bellows.

All in all the $50 was worth it to me because I want to stick to SLP aftermarket bolt-ons and the look of my engine compartment was much improved.

The fit and quality of the SLP belows is great. It has a nice and tight fit so nothing is getting loose over time.

It comes down to if you want to spent $50 of your hard earned mod money on a mod that gets you no HP at all but cleans up you engine compartment a bit. It was worth it to me

Hey Wicked SS what types of problems did you have with the baker hose you bought? I just ordered one a few days ago!

I ordered the hump hose yesterday and it will probably be here in a couple days...I'll try it out...for 12.80 plus shipping!....its worth a try and its way cheaper than the slp....I think 50 bucks+ for something that will probably gain me 2 to 4 hp is too high....but 12.80 seems a better investment....I'll just wait and see.....

P.S. I tried the fernco but lid clamps kept popping off and it was too risky with the lid...being that lids don't come cheap!!!
fernco ...its for plumbers!!!

The concern is "breaking tabs on the lid". Is that a Baker hose problem or could/does the $12 hose pose the same risk?

there has to be a reason for slp to chose that material,,, what tabs could it break off the lid? I am trying to find all the answers, people with slp give reviews and people that have a cheaper version, give your reviews,,, also, on the 12 dollar one: do you have to cut the rubber to make it fit?

thanks

I have the $12.80 hump hose. 4" TB side and 3.5 MAF side. I had to cut mine for the TNT power ring. It fits great doesn't suck in and was the cheapest mod that I have other than the free ones. I also have the SLP lid and have had no prblems with it breaking tabs off. Everything is sealed and no problems. It wouldn't be on my car if it did.
