Hands down the SLP two on the left. Great sound, not too loud and built of quality stainless steel for less the 400.00. I love mine.

Get MagnaFlow Crossflow Setup. Pretty quite on a stock exhaust but man does it open up on WOT. It's the Best Flowing crossflow muffler out there if your looking for Horsepower.

Re: the best exhaust for the money??
I agree with both posts, however the Magnaflow is the cheaper of the two. Just do the crossflow muffler (mine was less than 120.00 welded in). Sound gets better with age. Quiet on the interstate at cruising speeds, wakes up when you get your foot into it. I researched a good bit and am happy with my choice (especially for the money). Other options would be a Hooker catback or the Dynomouth that you could probably do a search on. Good luck.

The Corsa is EXACTLY what you are looking for. It is nice and smooth at idle, but wakes up at WOT and will surprise you, especially with headers and/or engine work.

Ill second the corsa, I plan on buying the corsa soon. I have the flowmaster exhaust and I hate it, Its raspy and loud with no cats and headers, I want something nice and clean like the corsa, it has cool tips too!

I love my SLP loudmouth dual/dual setup- noticeable power increase over stock and a tough but not annoyingly loud sound- only $350... Tips laser etched, look cool.

I'de say Hooker or the SLP 2OTL. I heard it for the first time Sunday on a 96 SS and it made me tremble it sounded SOOOOOO Goood!!!!!!! Which LT1's and LS1's have a different sound you could get an idea.
IMO Magnaflow = JUNK!!!!!!!!! I have heard it on one car and I NEVER want to hear it again! I don't mean to bash it but it just sounded horrible.... kind of like an old pulp wood truck.

Re: the best exhaust for the money??
I'm new here, but I am a veteran over at ls1.com and I don't know if you guys have heard of this, but theres a custom exhaust alot of people have called the Dynomouth. Its basically a modified version of your stock exhaust using a Dynomax bullet muffler in your I-pipe and then your stock muffler cut out and a straight pipe welded in place.
This is almost identical to the Loudmouth setup, but a lot cheaper. All you need to buy is the bullet muffler which Jegs sells for about $40, and then have an exhaust shop weld it up for you. Most people end up paying less than $150 for the whole system including the mprice of the muffler.
Since the most restrictive point in the F-body exhaust is the muffler, simply removing this will get you about the same HP gains as any other catback.
This is without a doubt the best "bang for your buck" catback you can have in your car.
The Hooker and Loudmouth would be the next cheapest full exhausts.
Someone mentioned the Corsa, and although its a great system and looks nice, its definitely not cheap.

I have a LM but I switched out the resonator with a dynomax, hence Dynomouth. I love it, sounds soooo much better than regular LM.

just ordered my hooker catback a few days ago from tunder racing. 270 plus shipping. i'll get it on wednesday and hopefully install then too! After listeining to clips, i can't wait to have it on my car. Headers would be one of my next mods. The full hooker system sounds BADASS!!!

Re: the best exhaust for the money??
I know that going with a Dynomouth bullet style muffer and taking it to get installed would be a cheaper route, but with the Loudmouth, everything is stainless steel. If you go to a muffler shop, theyre most likely to give you aluminized steel which will rust sooner or later. Stainless steel is good quality exhaust material that wont rust. If however you do find a shop that will do it with stainless steel, theyre gonna charge you an arm and a leg. So its gonna wind up costing you the same with buying the Loudmouth.
