Default Pulling the motor thru the top???

those who have pulled the motor through the top how did you do it. I swappin my v6 out for an ls1 and I am attempting to put the ls1 in and can't quite seem to make it fit. What did you do or what do you have to take off to get it in. I can seem to get it as far as getting the flywheel/clutch underneath the cowl but the crank pully catches on the front radiator cross brace. I need about an inch and a half or so more to make it work. What do you guys think?

Is the crank pulley off? We put mine back in with the tranny bolted up and used a Hydraulic jack to raise it up in the gally and it slid right in...

yes the crank pulley is still on. its the complete long block as it stands right now.
Hydraulic jack to lift it up??? Sounds like yer going in from the bottom?
Twist it? How much?? 15, 45, 90 degrees? every way I try to twist it seems to get worse, starts to run into the ac compressor on one side and the alternator on the other. I guess I could take them off. and see if that gives me more room?

The way we did it was from the top as I did not have the engine completely assembled. Mine was just the block, heads and tranny. Everything was not on the engine as you will need to remove the pully, comp, and other interference items until you have clearence. Then it should go right in as you should have the tranny and long block in a 45 degree angle and as your lowering it in the engine compartment you should put your car in neutral with blocks under the rear tires and have someone in the back push the car forward or backwards to get it in and once its in and have the motor mount bolts lined up and started take the jack with a 2 x 4 on top and put under the tranny tail shaft to adjust for the tranny mount. then tighten all bolts and nuts....

Just drop it down real fast and hard a couple times. It'll fit !!! :-) Angle and twist are the key.
