Tranny removal with longtubes

Can the transmission be removed in a 6 speed ls1 f-bod with long tube headers still in place?

It looks fine except for the part of the bellhousing where the starter goes...it looks like it will hit the header. The header hangs over this area about 1/4 inch.

Anyone know for sure?

Taken mine out 15 or so times with my longtubes still in place.

6 speed with pacesetters.

when i had the stall put in my car they didn't evan have to remove the y-pipe, it slid right through

thats right u don't have to remove the headers to take the trans off

has anyone done it with flowtechs or hookers? They are both the same shape I think...but the flowtechs get the premium welds and flanges

whiteknight...yes it can be done with an auto...read the above post about removing for stall

I've done it without even removing my true-duals. I had to unbolt the hangers so I could tilt the tranny down to hit the top bolts though.

Yes, this is a must, I thought it was a given so I did not mention it.

Installuniversity.com has a nice writeup. Click LSx vehicals then install docs. There's a link to the clutch swap.

LS1howto.com has a torque spec list if you can't find some of them on there.

I did not know about separating from the bellhousing first. I have never done this when removing transmissions...but I guess if it makes the job easier I am all for it.
