Default SLP Cold air intake question

Is this a worthwhile mod? I've got a whisper lid on my '01 SS now. Anybody got any pictures of the CAI system in place? Sorry for the ignorance!

Thanks in advance

From what ive heard the FTRA (fast toys ram air) is better than the slp. and if u want to go crazier get the super sucker. i just went blank on who sells them. I have the FTRA and really like it. i could tell a difference in power whenever i was at 60 mph plus. Installing it is easy too, so i say go for it!

I am happy with my SLP ram air... I'm not really sure that you'd notice a big difference between the SLP and the FTRA. They both do the same job, but I bought the SLP b/c it looks like it is a more quality system than the FTRA from the pics at thunder racing. I'm sure you'd be happy with either.

A friend of mine recently installed the SLP CAI on his '98 T/A. Our 'birds had nearly identical modifications until this install. On the dyno, he only had ONE horsepower more than my car and that was with a fan blowing into it. I didn't use a fan, and like I mentioned was just one horsepower less.....I don't see the gain being worth the price of the unit unless you're really hauling the mail on an actual road....

I've had an SLP CAI/RA or what ever you want to call it since it came out. The SLP helped compared to the stock set up for sure. I don't think the SLP really scooped air until ~ 80 mph as it didn't stick down very far. I did see the car jump 5rwtq once on the dyno when a small fan was placed in front of the SLP CAI, so it has potential.

I bought the FTRA adapter for the SLP CAI to make it better. I'm ok with what FTRA sent but have the following comments.

FT was slow to ship. It didn't arrived (ground) as quick as I'd hoped but no big deal.

The FTRA adapter was bent up when it arrived. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

Nothing I couldn't fix but SLP clearly took a little more effort in making sure their CAI would arrive undamaged than FT did. Nothing to make a big issue out IMO of as the parts were useable but others might not have felt that way.

I'm happy FT made the adapter and I think it's a good idea if you have a SLP CAI.

Many people dumped their SLP CAI so you might find one used for dirt cheap.

BTW - FT took the SLP CAI and improved it to become the FTRA.

I like keeping the orginal SLP CAI myself as that was the only mod, I ever got to do before everyone else did an aftermarket RA.

You should consider the Supersucker. It costs a little more but it's worth it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Everybody needs to remember that all cumbustion engines run better when the air supply is cold. wether the gain is 1 hp or 10 and this is especially true during hot weather.
