Default Wow! Actual gains with MAF ends???

I just did a search on MAF ends and found that a lot of people have dyno proven gains from these. That kind of surprised me, I thought they might be one of those mods like the throttle body airfoils for L98's and LT1's, which is kind of a bs mod.

Anyway, I've seen like 6-10 rwhp gains claimed. Can most of you vouch for this mod? Is it one of the "must do's"? I have a stock 98 T/A (still being shipped to me) w/ a Stealth airbox and Pro 5.0 that will be my first mods. I was going to do the exhaust next. Are the MAF ends worth it right now or should I wait until I have a cam?

i did a maf, it seemed to allow the car to pull harder up top, less decline of acceleration.
But I can't vouche for the MAF ends

I would stay away from the maf. The ends will yeild a gain but you will more then likely need to tune the car with a maf translator. The money is better used somewhere else at this point. Alot of guys run great times with the stock or desceened stock maf.

i never dynoed my tr hiflo ends, but they did take me from 13.12 to 12.94. not bad for a low cost mod $$. now i run 11.7's and still have them on my ride.

Depending on mike c's A/F ratio before the MAF ends, I can see how he dropped ET like that. Since you have a M6, you should go with the MAF ends. Just be sure to tune it in.

Maf ends are a good buy. They can give you up to 10RWHP. I would do it. I run a GMS maf, but if they had the ported maf ends when I bought this maf, I would have the bought them instead of the GMS. Cheaper and they do practically the same thing. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

A MAFT would accomplish the same thing and give you much more ability to adjust over time with each new mod. You can find them used for $100.

UGOT8, IMO MAF ends aren't a good mod for A4's. They are tough on auto tranny's resulting from decreased line pressure. Others may tell you different. That's my 2 cents though.

Orange Krush,

I clicked the link you provided and I read the entire post. Sorry to hear about your tranny problems. It wasn't in vane though. You and the rest of us at LS1tech are doing serious R&D. We can all learn from this. Kudos to you for going back and completing your post with the final outcome and the "verdict".

Anytime, glad I could shed some light ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> Lol ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

It does suck to learn when U aren't ready to upgrade, but fortunatley another board member was upgrading to ARE 436 so I got his slightly used stock 4L60-E for the right price ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

All's well that ends well ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

You are correct about the low line pressure damaging the tranny, but that is minimal and most likely won't be noticed. I have almost 80k miles on my car and haven't had one tranny problem besides the tranny mount needing replaced. Just a few bolt-ons, no tuning at all, and I'm runnin low 12s.

Then again...its different for every car.

I agree Devil ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

For us A4 LS1'ers that use our cars/trucks in a competiton mode, ported Maf ends will cause an issue after some heavy abuse without proper tuning ! <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" />

As for street driven only A4 cars I'm sure the ends may not be so detremental ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
Just for the record my Z has seen some serious abuse ! <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

My car has 300+ 1320' passes on it, <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> of those 100+ were on the sauce ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I also have 150+ dyno pulls due to the tuning and testing of parts ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />
