Chris, I don't recall if you have a manual or auto but, ... I have a Vig3200 in my car and many people think my car is a manual. Anyway, listen to these videos of the Hooker system, I have the long tubes, ORY and catback. Judge for yourself if it is too loud or not.

http://mrz28ho.cz28.com/videos/Cruise10-28-02.MPG
My car is the first one, leading a group of 3rd gens. Listen to the exhaust note as it downshifts and "flys by".

http://mrz28ho.cz28.com/videos/Vig3200-01.mpg
In this clip, (although it shows the tach only) I had the windows down. You can here what the sound level is at WOT.

http://mrz28ho.cz28.com/videos/HOLTVILLE-GPL-02.mpg
Here is an outside shot of my car coming off a straight away from over 110 MPH. Gives you a good prespective of the sound of the Hooker (with LT and no cats). The Hooker flows very well, in fact it flows so good it shoots out flames under hard braking. I dyno'ed with my cutout opened and closed. The difference was the Hooker lost about 6 RWHP and 12 RWTQ.

Hope this helps your decision. See my website for more videos.

I finally recieved and installed my Borla muffler. I took off my $6xx B&B tri flo muffler to put this one on. I should have done this a year ago. It feals like it did with the cut out open. It sounds awesome. It is very, very quiet at idle and doesnt get any louder at WOT. It has a very deep sound. When Im driving, all I hear is the noisey valve train. you cant hear the exhaust coming from the tail pipe.
I got compliments all the time about my B&B tri flo, and it sounded good, but it was noisy, everybody could hear it. I have ported heads,TR224,headers off road pipe and a ST3500 yank. With the exhaust so quiet, Im thinking about a TP4200.
I made a 90 out of 3" pipe off the muffler and i have it pointed straight out. I had to weld a peice of rod as a hanger to connect to the rubber hanger on the drivers side. The muffler is very small and only wieghs about 7 1\2-8lbs.Once you have the muffler and tip mounted, you can hardly see it. The guy that help me weld the hanger said it sounds like stock only deeper.
Borla Pro XS Part #40353 Off set in/out
I got mine from Speed Tek 214-328-9191
99.98 shipped.
Chris ARE 360--You buy the muffler and you dont like it, Ill buy it from you!

I'm going to throw in a solid vote for the SLP dual-dual, I think its one of the best sounded most free flowing exhausts on the market..

Slp dual/dual= heavy and loss of power. Just cut one open. My B&B tri flo only cost me 5hp! But it was thru out my whole rpm range.I dyno'd 385rwhp

I would LOVE to have pics/dimensions of this muffler setup
Might make for a quiet true dual setup if everything fits
Cheers,
Chris

It's a very imformative article. It gives a brief description of each muffler. It shows the Dyno #'s of each muffler from 2750 to 6500. It also shows the decibles of each muffler @ idle,2000 and at WOT. In the article it says that the Borla XS outperformed the XR1.

Awesome, thanks.

One comment: Do they test the center/center muffler? If so, I'd imagine that the offset/offset PRO XS wouldn't flow as well as the center/center, but then the question is, is the difference significant?

Also, how bad is the resonance now?

I'll probably be ordering one of these Borla PRO XS mufflers this week.

This thread inspired me and I just installed a Dynomax Ultra Flo 17236 on my otherwise stock ’02 Z28. The 17236 is a 2 ˝ inch single in / single out. It is quieter than the original muffler, lighter, (18 pounds versus 28), and slightly smaller. I dyno’ed before and after. Peak RWHP increased approximately 2 percent from 304 to 311. Increased area under the curve looks more significant. Before, my Z just squeaked above 300 hp around 5400 rpm. Now it is solidly above 300 from 4900 to 6000 rpm. I purchased the Dynomax from Summit for $95; installation at a local shop was another $90. This muffler is not for everyone. I want quiet for highway cruising. I don’t care for the phony duals and outrageous cost of so-called catback mufflers. The original muffler really is surprisingly poor.

Gary Z ,
Good increase with just a muffler
What size/type of tailpipe did you chose ?

Also, just wondering, what made you pick the 17236 over the 17235 ,which is a 3" in/out muffler.

Dave
