LS6 Headers vs. aftermarket when limited

Default LS6 Headers vs. aftermarket when limited

Due to the orientation of steering components and the subframe in my project car, I am limited to either shorty or block hugger-style exhaust manifolds. No longtubes are going to fit. I've been told by a few sources that the '02-03 LS6 exhaust manifolds are some of the best flowing out there, even when compared to what's available in the aftermarket. And since I have a family member at GM, I can get a new set for $270. So my question is this: Am I better off going with the LS6 headers, or is there another set that will flow better/as well, that are similarly priced? Or, am I just not going to be able to beat the bang for the buck and I should shut up and be happy? This is going on an '01 LS1 that will have an unrestricted 2.5" dual exhaust behind it.

The '00 & up manifolds flow very well for what they are. I bet a set of those with an Extrude Hone pass would perform very well.

Unfortunatly it cost over $500 to have them extruded honed.

Seems to me that most of what you'd want
to do to the cast iron manifolds, can be
done with the die grinder (maybe a long-
shank burr). I bet a little cleanup of
short bends and rough edges, and port
matching, is where the easy HP are and
getting an additional millimeter of
inside diameter, for such a short distance,
is not the big bonus.

I've been told that the LS6 (Corvette Z06) manifolds will not fit an F-body. Can someone confirm this? I doubt that they fit. If they did, many of us would be using them.

It's still a good question, 'cuz the picture
I saw of 'Vette manifolds looked like something
between a ram's horn and a shorty header. Like
it would flow better than a log. But I've never
heard from anyone who tried it and could say
for sure.
