Y pipe rattle driving me crazy!!!
I have a 3 inch y pipe along with slp long tubes and a cam. The y pipe keeps bangin up against the damn sub framing on the driverside of car. While stopped, moving or in park.I already tried wrapping it up in asbestos with a clamp and no luck. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> any suggestions.

Loosen the front collector bolts and the
I-pipe band. Get a bunch of 3/8" thick
things to use for shims - strips of wood
etc. Put shims between the pipe and all
close interferers. This includes the
floor pan bosses, the crossbrace, the
driveshaft, the gas tank heat shield, all
down the line. Now jack up the Y-pipe
(more than one floor jack, or at least a
couple of jack stands help) until it's up
as far as it'll go with all shim spacings
set. Now tighten I-pipe band and collector
flanges. There should be no interference now
(unless your motor mounts are pudding).

Re: Y pipe rattle driving me crazy!!!
I had some problems with my Hooker ORY. I had to put in some more "clearance dents" in the y pipe. I also welded a peice of strap with an old valve spring with a rubber bumbstop that is preloaded on the bottom of the floorpan. No more rattles or banging under any type of acceleration.
