Default RASP RASP RASP, this thing is too loud..

Edelbrock LT's. ORY, TSP Rumbler (dynomax bullet).

What can I do to this to get rid of the machine gun at 2500 and quiet this thing down a bit? I really like the sound save for the rasp and I need it turned down a few decibels. Any mufflers that can be welded into it? Do I need to scrap it for a completely new catback?

I knew it would be loud, but I heard the car clearly running through the gears when it was taken down a road, LITERALLY a MILE away, and it makes me nervous around town, the cops love to write tickets for this.

Try the sweet thunder, its supposed to mellow it out some, but other than a new cat back, it's never going to be a really quiet system
FWIW just keep your foot out of it in town, I haven't had a problem (knock wood) with cops (small town and bored) I just keep it below 2500 and they don't even look twice

spiral flow, borla, or magnaflow in place of the dynomax will help some but the machine gun sound is inherent with an LS1, just some exhaust covers it up better

Well, you will get rasp alone from having an aluminum block.

Why not?

Good CATS won't hurt performance any, it's all about flow rates.

Easiest option is just get a different catback, but most will be fairly loud with an ORY, LT's and a cam.

It's not often I'd disagree with you, but I will on this one

I don't beleive it's soley the aluminium block which causes rasp and the reason being a Rover V8 is aluminium, so is a Jaguar V12, Jagaur V8, Ford 3v SHOC V8 and 32 valve DOHC units (not 03/4 Cobra), BMW and Mercedes V8's. And wasn't the LT5 an aluminium block also? None of these suffer from rasp.

I think there's a combination of reasons why an LS1 is more prone to rasp, the firing order is most likely to be the reason as I beleive it's different from any other SBC.

It does contribute however. That was what I was getting at. And you are right about the firing order having something to do with the rasp as well. But Aluminum will resonate and cause the sound more so than iron.

Not to disagree with you 300bhp/ton but the for SOHC and DOHC v8 motors are nothing but rasp IMO. My friends 99 cobra with catless x pipe and bassani is VERY raspy, sounds alot like my car actually.

My spirals have the "rasp", I would not recommend them to fix this problem. I was thinking sone 1 camber flowmasters. I have not got around to getting any yet..

Just try the high flow cats...You will be out of 2-3 hp at the most. (in some cases none at all) and will lose some of the rasp if not all of it.

He has a good point. I'm putting down 400 rwhp with bolt-ons, a small cam, and high flow cats. There are some videos in the car domain link in my sig if you want to hear it.

......I love all the rasp, loudness and the machine gun sound I get

but I do understand what your saying sometimes the loudness will make me very paranoid at stoplights, cuz if a cops rolls up nex to me hes not gonna like the sound coming from my car.
I do most of my shifting right at 2000 rpm jus so the it doesnt sound like an ak47 all the time.
but it sure shakes the walls in the morning

Well, I was thinking and thinking, and talking to the shop. I was thinking that we should weld in a hooker aerochamber muffler and tips into it after the bullet. I would call it.. my Hookermouth! They were thinking about using a Spintech muffler and doing the same thing. Spinmouth doesn't quite have the same ring though
