Default Cats robbing power

Just how much power to cats rob? Im going to be getting headers with a custum exhaust done (its going to be TD's and dump just infront of my rear tire) and was wondering if i should put cats on or cut my cats open, gut them, then have with either welding into the system, or just welded around the pipes of my exhaust... but if they dont rob tons of power ill just have them welded in so how much power do they actually eat?

Hardly any at all. Lots of people run catless for that application. I for one.

They do not rob very much power at all...maybe 5-10hp. BUT, I gutted mine and its the best thing I ever did for the sound of my car. The cats give the car a crappy sound, so if you don't have to have them, get rid of em and thank me later

I think the only headers you can get that are emissions legal for CA are shorties which arent really worth much at all.....

Seems we're discussing a lot about shorties and just headers in general lately.

High-flow cats do not rob much power at all. With the way they're making them today, you'll lose maybe 5 horsepower, if even that. Not a big deal for a great sounding car. Some exhausts sound okay without cats, some don't. That's because some people like rasp and volume gains, while others want to retain the smooth and even sound that cats will give.

Definitely a big difference for me in sound between cats and no cats. No cats sounds much better.

Have you considered the Dynatech long tube headers? You can pop the cats in and out at will and its only a half hour job, very easy.
