excuse the newb question, but whats the downfall of wrapping headers? im assuming u cant just start to wrap from the collector to the beginning and behind the bung? will that be enough to heat up the sensor?

Well,thought i would share my o2 situation..Had mac mids,0 problems,built engine,switched to coated long tube pace setters and bosch 13111 o2's,did good for a fiew weeks,p1133,1153 came on,changed o2's again,same sh@# again.brought it to work,hooked up tec 2,and read o2's,Hmm,..put on rack.pulled o2's out of headers,checked depth of o2 bungs,hell,the o2's tip was barely exposed.I trimmed a little more than a 1/8 inch off bung on outside of collector,so far so good,and it's a 98.

I installed longtubes on Thanksgiving and ran my old O2's for the past month with no problems. But my O2 readings looked a little lazy and my fuel trims were pretty high so I picked up a new pair of Delco AFS O2 sensors off Ebay. I'm running the new sensors for the past week and no problems with them and my readings are much better. But I have dual 3" high flow cats and maybe they help hold enough heat in the collectors to allow the sensors to work properly. By the way, I bought 2 totally unrelated Delco AFS sensors. The stock AFS 97 and AFS 98 were not cheap so I won an AFS 106 (pretty long wire and same 4 wire connector) and AFS 123 (shorter wires and same 4 wire connector) for $9.99 each brand new on Ebay. The longer one allowed me to reach the factory connector without and extension and the short one had no problem reaching with a 24" extension.

I run open loop untill 1,200 rpms and it saves a ton of fuel and wear and tear on the 02's I have been running 13111's for about 2 years now with no problems. I got them for $120 in hawaii

It was done with hptuners, but efilive can easily take care of it as well. Its in forced open loop below 1200rpm by setting the pe enable for <1200 to 0 and the target afr to 1.00 (OLFA is also set to 1.0 for all cells near idle). That means whenever the throttle is closed and rpms are under 1200 the car is in pe mode. Then tune the ve table using the wideband and set the idle cells to meet your afr target. Dans car is set a little leaner than 14.7 at idle. His LTFTs are also turned off.

I'd just like to chime in that I reused my 98 o2 sensors on my QTP Ceramic coated headers. No codes and it's been over 15k miles now since I've done it.
Seems as though a combination of SS + ceramic coat is really good for preserving the heat. The only thing is if it's REALLY cold like 0degrees or below, it'll pull off that code if it's not allowed a good min or two to warm up. To give you an idea of how well it keeps the heat in, within a few mins of shutting off the car, the collector is touchable by bare hand without risk of being burned, the header primaries can be handled within 20 mins or so.
