o2 sensors with LT's not hot enough. Tips.

o2 sensors with LT's not hot enough. Tips.
It has come to my attention lol that lots of LS1's with LT's are throwing insufficient cycling codes for the front o2 sensors (P1133,P1153), and many folks believe it is due to the sensor being too far down stream to heat up.
Tips I 've seen on these message boards:
I'm not too keen on wrapping my headers. The downfalls of doing this are well known. I wonder if ceramic coated headers would help.
It won't be until after I install a H/C combo that I will have any professional tuning done.
The speed density and open loop. I'm really not sure what the heck that's all about at this point lol.
I will install some Bosch 13111's this weekend and see what happens....
Are there any other tips out there?
I have a few ideas I might try....
I'll see if I can cobble the metal shields from the stock spark plug wires onto the 13111 o2 sensors. I figure this might help them hold the heat better.
On the stock exhaust, has anyone else considered what the function of that little shield forward of one of the o2 sensors is for? The sensor it is used on is the one most exposed underneath the car. Does this shield help hold heat in, prevent air cooling, or is it there just to protect it from debris flying past it?
Tips I 've seen on these message boards:
- Wrapping the headers. (Helps retain heat)
- Use of Bosch 13111 sensor (Rear Corvette sensor has higher heater wattage).
- Reprograming the PCM to make it easier to pass self diagnostics.
- Different type of engine management. Running open loop, custom tuning, speed density.

I had that code thrown when I put my ceramic coated pacesetter LTs on. When I had my codes for AIR EGR and Rear O2s removed the tuner saw that these codes were set. I was a little concerned but he told me that it was not uncommon on some longtubes and that he would just remove the code completely from the computer. So it seems like there are no adverse effects to having the code removed other than the A:F maybe not being correct, but you need a dyno tune to tweak that anyway after longtubes.
But I am going on a few months w/out a dyno tune on this setup and have not seen any significant changs anywhere, even with gas mileage.

The shield in front of the 02 is used to deflect debris, with the 13111, you get alot of wire (the harness is very long), so think about places to tie it up to (you can loop it on itself they come with zip ties)
FWIW I've been using the 13111s since Dec, (daily driver) and haven't had an o2 code, so if you can't get a tune, then IMO those are the best solution
Don't bother with the plug heat shields, IMO you're wasting your time

I've been doing this trick for about 3 years now. When you get in the car, turn the key to accessory for about 30 seconds, then start the car. This will give the o2 sensors the time needed to reach a warmer tempreture. Not fully heated, but already started the warm-up prior to start-up. Never had the code come back on since doing this.

FWIW, I installed the 13111's today and went for a good long buzz. The car ran well and afterwards there were no pending codes. So for now, all is well. *crosses fingers*
I hope everyone is having a fine holiday and staying safe. And don't forget the true meaning of Memorial Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who died in military service for their country. Props to them for making the ultimate sacrifice .

I just paid 52 including tax for my 13111's at my local Autozone.
FWIW, I recall the 98s have more of an issue with this than any other year. I ran coated jet hots without cats on my last 98 and it said the codes with stock O2s and 13111s, so I just tuned them out. On my current car with TiTech coated Edelbrocks, cats, and 13111s, I got no codes.

anyone else have problems wit there 98s and the 13111s. I have a 98 T/A throwin all kindof codes. was going to get some new sensors soon but would rather not throw 140 bucks down the drain.
