Need Help ASAP On Pulley Problem!!!!
Anyway, I was really concerned about putting that much pressure on the threads inside the crank. I was worried that the pressure needed to break the pulley loose and get it moving would've sheared them off. Doesn't seem as though that happened, fortunately.
Is it possible you cross-threaded the bolt?
I'll be installing the ASP pulley when I get home from work tonight. I'll post back up if I have any problems with it.

Also how much did you torque the new bolt down too? Did you do 37 lbs and a 120 degree turn? Or a specific torque #?
Jeremy

Well, yes and no. I torqued it to 37, then tried to go another 120 degrees, and it started to turn the drivetrain (at least it tried) after about 100 degrees or so! I checked it with the torque wrench, and it was over 140 ft lbs, so I figured with the thread lock and the rubber they put on the heads of the bolts, it wouldn't be coming off anytime soon.
Why do so many people have trouble with this? Get the longer (16mmX2mmX120mm [can be slightly shorter or longer]) bolt and you won't have these problems. The extra length makes getting the new ASP pulley started onto the crank snout a lot easier than using the stock bolt which is only 103mm long. When removing the stock pulley you put a BIG allen head cap screw into the crank for the puller rod to buck up against after you have removed the stock bolt. You may need a few large flat washers under the head of the allen screw to spread the load. The puller rod centers itself in the hex shaped space in the top of the allen screw. The pulley almost jumps off of the crank. I used a chain wrench on the stock pulley to keep the crank from rotating while breaking the stock bolt loose. This ain't the computer forum it's the EXTERNAL forum. Don't make this so complicated

Good information and a nice write up too. Have you considered that not everyone has your experience in doing this.
