If you go with the 'race only' kit you may may experience a slight drop in voltage at idle. No big deal and small sacrifice for the performance increase.

What about if I'm driving around with all of my accessories on? Can the alternator handle that with the new pulley?

just get the lower pulley and not the altpulley that comes with it. You wont have any charging issues from just doing the lower pulley(its the main one u need anyway). Those that do the alternator pulley have a drop on voltage at lights commonly found in A4's. M6's dont see that drop as bad

Getting this pulley done correctly has been the biggest pain in the butt that i have had to deal with my car so far. After i installed the crank pulley the first time one of the belts flew off on the highway. I put it back on and made it home. I found out you have to have a tensioner pulley with it. So i ordered that and put it on. Then the pulley begins throwing misfire codes because its not balanced. So i had to take it off and ship it back. They sent me a new one but now i have to install that again and that belt that came off on the highway is torn up pretty bad so i have to order a new belt. I originally ordered this pulley back in October or November and i still dont successfully have it on my car yet ARGHH <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

It is coming off a fourth time this next week to be sold, but just crank it down with the original crank bolt till it won't go on anymore, then out the new bolt in and torque it down, it really is that simple.

It is highly unusual to get an unbalanced pulley from ASP as VHG says he did. The crank pulley MUST be in alignment with the other pulleys that it drives AND the belt MUST be under tension. This applies in any pulley/belt system regardless of whether you use an ASP pulley or not. If alignment is a problem you need to visually inspect your pulleys. You can also use a straight edge to check for alignment. Use a piece of steel flat stock to check it. You should also have checked the relationship between the factor crank pulley hub boss and the crank snout before the factory crank pulley was removed. Did you do this? This is the relationship you must initially start with to maintain proper pulley alignment. Charging with ASP is NOT a problem unless you spend more time idling than actual driving or you have a 1000 WATT sound system.

Since i put my asp underdrive crank pulley on this last weekend i love it. At night the voltage stays around 12-13 volts but goes back up when u start accelrating and also love it when u drop in 2nd gear and my car starts going sideways. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

That can happen if you don't lubricate the OD and ID of the hub like the instructions indicate. You can gall the aluminum ID of the pulley without the proper lubricant which can cause it to be out of balance and/or wobble.

Another advantage to the underdrive is that it slows all the accessories, including the idler, and protects them from high RPM wear. I was reading that the rev limit on the LS1 is there more to protect the accessories, that the engine itself can rev higher. So if you take her up through the RPM range from time to time, this is a good thing to have. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
