Default LS1 experts/technicians suggestions

Hey guys, just got a black manual 2002 trams am a couple months ago with 32k miles, and runs GREAT! and untill just the other day I got waxed(barely) by a neon stage 2 with heavy mods, or so he said. lol after being totally tortured and harassed by a couple of friends who were in the car at the time I decided to start doing some mods in despite of my college tuition.

I bought pacesetter headers along with the y-pipe and cutouts, and plan on adding an SLP Cold air induction package, SLP MAF sensor, and a ported 90mm TB....and POSSIBLY thinking about looking into a cam/rocker arms after i get all caught up.

Any suggestions?? I don't plan on going BIG with the power, this is my only car and go through no more then average; 1k miles a month. Im almost possitive Im going to have to upgrade the clutch, but don't want something thats going to be crazy heavy duty.

I suggest you read the guide at the top of this section and forget about the SLP MAF and "cold air package". You could spend $500 on the NOS 5177 dry kit and blow his doors off with a small shot (75 or so).

Longtubes, y-pipe, cutout (singular), lid (from any sponser), ported stock throttle body, and free mods. This should gain you at LEAST 40-50rwhp from bone stock.

Your car, being a 2002, has the z06 clutch, so it should hold up for a while. Replace it when it takes a dump on you, not just because.

Yeah, but I don't want to have to buy a whole new bottle of NOS everytime I drain it. I'm no NOS expert but once you hit the shot of NOS it drains the whole bottle right? I live in Florence KY(rice city) and just want to show these little boys some muscle

No you don't drain it every time lol. Its a liquid in the bottle under extremely high pressure. There's a tube going down to the bottom of the bottle on the inside, the vapors inside the bottle push the liquid into the tube which goes to the front of the car via a hose. At the end of this hose there's a little valve that opens and closes when you "hit it". You wire this valve to open/close when you floor it, but you can also turn it off completely. The bottle will run out after enough uses, but it takes a WHILE depending on how big of a shot you run (75shot = +75 HP), it's like a can of hairspray.

BTW - Don't let your friends see this or you'll get ragged on even harder.

If you raced the guy with 3 friends in the car, and barely got beat, leave the 3 freinds out, and go race him again, you'll probably win due to the reduction in weight (3 friends @200 lbs each = 600 extra lbs you're hauling around) BTW that would add 6 tenths to your 1/4 mile time
FWIW nitrous is safe, you just have to use it smartly, and it's one of the best bang for the buck mods, what else is going to give you 100hp for $1000, and a weekend of your time to install (the 1k is figuring the kit, bottle warmer, switch panel, window switch, and a set of TR6 plugs)
Read around the nitrous forum and see what to do to make it as safe as possible

Man you really need to learn more about your car before you dive in too deep. You don't sound too confident in your knowledge of your vechicle. First off the Ported 90mm TB is useless to you right now. You would have to get a intake to match it, the stocker is too small. If you do a cam you will need to spend around $1000 to do it right. You would have to get pushrods, cam, timing chain, gasket kit, springs, etc...

Than remember a good dyno tune also.

If you just let your exhaust breathe with LT's, ORY, true duals or good flowing catback & a small dry shot of Nitrous you will be more than happy until you can get more funds together. I suggest doin alot of research on different parts combos & others personal experiences with the different parts your thinking about. Otherwise your gonna spend way more than if you educate yourself first.

I have had my car almost 2yrs & have invested much time in researching & watching people at the track so I don't waste money on parts I don't need.

yeah if your on the college buget; id do what these guys said; headers (longtubes), catback, gear, port TB with an air lid(forget that slp stuff), and a 100 shot of gas.

100 shot isnt big enough to realy hurt anything and even with a 10 lb bottle it should last a couple weakends of horsen around depending on how much you race. and you dont have to spend a grand to get a really good set up but i would recomend a remote bottle opener.

forget about the "upgraded" MAF their more problems for no gain suposedly stock ones are good to 600 hp just descreen your stock one. also dont forget to cutout the bottom of your airbox too.

in order to come close to the power the nitrous will give you you will need to do heads and cam and a converter and tune your talking about a MINIMUM starting around $3000+.
