Default Warranty Worries???

Ok i'm soon to get a Magnaflow System on my ws6 and my parents are worried i'm gonna void my warranty. Anyone with examples of what would void my warranty and for what reasons? Thanks.. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> I already have a SLP Airlid and K&N Filter and i'm wanting to do the SLP CAI kit as well. Does any of those void my warranty? I can always put back the stock air lid.

If the mod ( any mod ) you perform on your car causes a problem that part of the car can be refused warranty work. Here's what I mean, if your K&N air filter causes a problem with the MAF then the dealer can refuse to fix the MAF under warranty. So if you install an aftermarket exhaust system and your AC stops working the exhaust system had nothing to do with the AC failing, then the AC would be repaired under warranty.

i did have warranty work done on the car after headers & had no problems , just like al said as long as the mod didnt cause the problem , with exhaust you should be fine . <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Heres two conclusions I've made about warranties and mods:

1. A warranty can be deined for any reason. As to whether or not, you have a justifyable legal recourse is between you and your lawyer. It depends on where you take your car to, and who the warranty is through. One dealer can deny a claim, and another could have no problems with it. Its a tossup.

2. Aftermarket warranty companies are even more stingy than GM is. I have heard many stories, and even have a few for myself, of 3rd party warranty companies looking for every excuse in the book to deny a claim. My example is, when I had my A4 transmission rebuilt under warranty, they asked the shop if my car had aftermarket wheels on the car. Apparently to them, different rims are grounds for denial.

on a side note here...a kn filter can not void a warantee. it is a maintenance part. meaning gm would have to provide you with a free air filter when needed. since they charge you you have the right to buy what you want as long as its approved for your application. it would be like a dealer voiding your warrantee because your oil pump failed because you used a fram oil filter. again they could do this if they provided the gm oil filter free to you but they dont so its your choice. my wording may be off a little but in a nutshell you can see what i mean. do a little research....its the law! a cat back is legal. shorty emission headers are legal. longtubes are not, because they screw up the design and placements of the emission system. sorry so long but i hope it helps. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

A buddy of mine has a 98z and he took it in for warrenty work. He had a cutout on it so they still fixed his car but sent him a letter a few days later saying his warrenty was voided because of the cutout. Ive taken my 02 WS6 in for work before, i just took my airlid off and put the stock one back on.

as long as the system doesnt include headers and you still have cats, i wouldnt see any reason for them to say anything

There's nothing wrong with using something other then a A.C oil filter but what about this, you use an aftermarket oil filter and it collapses and you engine goes south, do you think G.M will repair it free ( I doubt it ).

You can always check with your local dealer, but unless a failure can be directly connected to the mod they can't touch ya. When I bought my car I was talking to the service guy and he was making recommendations on what I should mod and the air lid and Magnaflow was the first thing he said I should do. He also tried to sell me the HPP III so I could mod the PCM. Guess I just have a dealer that understands us!

I was worried about warranty also when I bought my Borla. So I E mailed Pontiac.com and told them what I wanted to do. They said as long as the parts I put on do not do any damage no problem. But if a pipe burns a part or hits or rubs something then just that part is not covered. They said if the dealer gives me any trouble to have them call Pontiac and it will be explained to them! They also told me to print the letter they sent me. So don't let a dealer give you any trouble. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

When it's all said and done it depends on the dealer. I had my clutch replaced last year and some other warranty work and I have a lid, STB, SFC's, cutout and a shiftlight and everyone was done without issues.

it would depend on the cut out location. if after the cats i would fight it tooth and nail. if before the cats good luck! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" /> . there is so much i want to do to my car but am working around the warrantee. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> its a 2002 so i have a while to go. by then there will be 3 bangers in the 11's <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> . oh well thats my luck. all ive done so far is stealth replacement intake, lm catback, and i got a carbon fiber driveshaft and hp3 ready to go in soon. next will be a asp pully, and if i can find a deal on the install a light fly wheel and decent clutch. use your head you will be ok if you dont go extreme. if you think it might void your warrantee,if something happens have it towed to your residence first and un mod it then go to the dealer. the price of the tow is cheap compared to their rates. the price for modding new(er) cars. for your case a catback is find...no emission stuff past the cats and all a muffler is for is local noise ordanaces. you might get a ticked but your warranty should be find. again i apologize for the length. have fun!

Before I drove my car off the dealers lot the salesman ask me what exhaust I was gonna get. I ask the service manager about mods and he said a lid and filter are fine along with a catback and even a reprogramming of the pcm. He said to get a magnaflow since he knows the owner real well. I would go around to different dealers and ask the service manager what mods can I do that I won't have to worry about the warranty. That way there's no surprises when you get the car back from the dealer. A catback is totally fine.
