Default SLP Y-pipe banging?...

i just recently installed SLP's y-pipe and now when i hammer the throttle from a stop i get a really bad banging noise from right under my seat. when i installed the pipe i removed the black sheet metal shroud that was covering the stock y-pipe. does this need to go back in or can anyone tell me what the hell happened. any help would be greatly appreciated

It's hitting the body support, you'll see right where that is after you crawl under the car. Might be able to beat a flat spot into the pipe or adjust it to be farther away. You wasted your money on SLP's y-pipe.

Are you still running stock manifolds/cats?

I had to beat both the pipe and the crossbrace (convertible)
to get the under-seat banging to quit, plus it was a very
finicky hang; you have to put fat shims in between the Y
(and don't forget the I either) and -every- close piece of
body sheet metal etc. Like pieces of 1x2 wood cut short,
jack the pipe with a crowbar to get the gap (wherever the
shim -won't- fit, is where you need one) and let the pipe
hold it in tension. Then you put the floor jack to the lowest
point, lift until the body starts to rise, and tighten up the
Y and I clamps.

Then you go drive it and try to find the spot you missed.
Again.

i just fixed mine today, thought it was the reducer running off the header that was really close to car, but turned out to be the body support were the y pipe merges. Took the four bolts out, walked downstairs, and beat the hell outta it with a hammer (in the proper spots of course), put it on, no more bangin (why couldn't i have figured that out a lot sooner). It was the lip of the metal piece that was interfering with the y.

Shims, to be removed after you get it dogged down
in position. If you don't I expect the new vibrations
will remind you if the charcoal aroma doesn't.
