Default Does this sound like a bad thermostat?

Here's some background. I just put in a new cam and haven't done any tuning yet. As I was coming home and pulling in my driveway all of a sudden my radiator starts overheating. I run out and pop the hood to see water pouring out of the radiator where the line for the throttle body goes to. I see that the little clamp isn't on the correct place. It's farther down the hose. I guess this is one clamp I forgot to put on right after doing the cam. So I'm thinking to myself no big deal, the line just came off from some pressure in the system. I just put more dex-cool antifreeze in and started it up. I watched the temp creep up. I had the heater on full blast. I was waiting for the t-stat to open up and have the temp fall. I was getting no heat from inside the car and the temp kept rising. It finally pegged and the check gauges light came on. I then shut it off. I have the hypertech 160 degree t-stat in there. Do you think this went bad. I'm thinking tomorrow I'll put in the stock one. Any ideas???????

Your'e thermostat could be stuck open. It's a possibility that you got a bad one. You could be over cooling your system, you might even have some trapped air in the radiator.

Here's my theory I could be and probably am wrong but it's worth a shot. The hose at the throttle body either was not put back on, or fell off, the coolant leaked out causing the first overheat. After the system ran real low on dexcool, the thermostat closed up, (if the thermostat was stuck open it would allow the full flow of coolant and overcooling of the system) filling the system with dexcool is a two step proscess. Start up the engine, start filling up the radiator, when it appears to be full, cover up the fill hole to allow pressure to build up to open up the thermostat to allow the dexcool to flow through the entire system and fill up the engine block. I think the second overheat was caused by not having enough coolant. just my theory. good luck, hope it's nothing serious.

I have to agree with richieg, If the therm was stuck it is stuck closed... But I belieive richieg was on the right track, you have to bleed the air out of the system, the fact you say your were getting no air into the heater core says air or closed them for sure. do the steps 15 -19 on
www.installuniversity.com Thermostat Swap Good luck, becareful and good luck, our all alum blks dont like heat..

Thanks for the responses guys. I went out this morning and checked the reservoir. It was much lower. I added to the full cool line and started it up. It was fine. I guess the air bled out of the system overnight.
