Default Magnaflow Muffler vs. Catback

What do you think would be better and why?

I kinda like the stock tips personally and I don't see a point in spending an extra couple hundred bucks just for polished, stainless steel tips if thats the only real advantage since I hear its tough to just unbolt the stock catback and bolt up the new one, although I haven't really looked at the stock system myself.

Basically what I want is a better, deeper sound with little cost and not too major of mods for a couple more years...the most I would get til out of college would be Pacesetters and an ORY and maybe a programmer, but I like the stock tips.

So why shouldn't I just buy the muffler and have it welded up in place of the stock muffler? What are your opinions?

im not sure if this is for all cat-backs, but my loudmouth has a 3 inch i-pipe, that also improves flow.

Edit:might not be the exhaust for you but only cost $350 and is crazy loud just the way i like it, but a hooker or magnaflow catback might also be in you budget, id just get a catback or a cutout with a muffler of your choice.good luck.

and it's mandrel bent and stainless steel. don't waste your money on a simple muffler. get the catback or get nothing IMO.

Truthfully, the vast majority of people always just buy the complete catback. I know others just buy the muffler and stick it in, but I never saw why. I know it's more cost-effective and such, but I guess I'm just more comfortable buying the whole catback and putting a bunch of brand new, quality stuff on. You might get a bit of extra power out of the bigger 3'' piping, but I just like knowing there's brand new stainless steel back there underneath. As for the stock tips, leaving them wouldn't be a problem. Even if you bought the entire catback, chop them off and have them welded onto the new piping. I'd personally sand them down and paint them a better black though.

the pipe from the factory is pretty good quality...i mean, pipe is pipe, even though it may be a quarter inch or half an inch smaller, would that really make that much of a difference? the muffler would be more freeflowing...

Lots of used setups available out there in the for sale section. Catbacks are nice. I am a TD fan myself who left the 4" exhaust behind for it.

For now you'll be alright with the stock tubing up to the muffler as far as hp is concerned. obviously you won't lose any. But I don't think there is a muffler on the market that will give you the sound you're looking for with stock manifolds/cats/y-pipe. The 3" pipe IMO is what gives that deep rumble. think about those fart cannons ricers use. You got 1 1/2" stock exhaust pipes into a 8" folgers coffee can and it sounds likes ****. High pitched and tinny. I've heard a few v6 fbods that sounded great with a 3" catback though.

Either get a 3" CATBACK or just go straight pipe where the stock muffler is.
