Default Installing Magnaflow cat back

I'm going to be installing a Magnaflow cat back this weekend. I have a few questions and would appreciate any input.

Are there any ways to remove the stock exhaust without cutting the I pipe and without unbolting the rear suspension if I had access to a lift?

If I do have to cut the I pipe, where do you suggest is a good spot on the pipe to cut if I were to just have my car on rhyno ramps? I have a saw saw.

Thanks,
Bill

cut right where it bends over the axel. I dont think you can get it out with out cutting it other than by dropping the rear down.

-just unbolt the shocks and support the diff. on a jack.

Like Bounce said, make a cut as far above the axle as possible.

I was able to remove my stock exhaust by jacking up the rear only (not unbolting anything). Both horses on the axle so the suspension was loaded. It comes right out.

I did however wind up pounding a flat spot on my magnaflow where it comes over the axle so it would not hit the cross-beam connected to the rear axle... Some systems (like SLPs dual/duals) have a flat spot on that pipe already... Mine banged before I flattened it out...

Thanks to all the replies. So, this sounds like it should be a pretty simple, 2 hour or so job with a sawzall.

I should be able to put the stock system back on if I get the spot that I cut welded back together?

Thanks,
Bill

I can't wait to get the system on. Were you guys able to feel the difference in performance? All i have now is just an SLP lid.

I want to be able to save the stock exhaust if I ever sell this vehicle. It seems like they're worth more in stock form.

Hey, nice set up, check my sig! You will defintely have a noticeable increase in power, especially at mid and top end rpm. The sound at WOT is awesome! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> The quarter mile time below includes a dismal 2.28 sec 60 ft time.

It is way easier to cut the stock exhaust. My Maglaflow catback fit much better than the Corsa I had before it. With the Corsa, there was always a fittment issue where the pipe goes over the rear axle as it would rub against the heat shield above it, whereas the Magnaflow cleared everything with space to spare. My car has run 12.9s with both systems and the same 110mph, the only other mods I have are an MIT lid and it is a M6 car. This was done on the stock RSAs pulling 2.0 60fts. Any catback will be a improvement over the stock setup, but I cant see where there could be more than 3-5hp difference between the best and the worst, you damn sure wont feel a difference from one to another. The Magnaflow is way smoother and quieter than the Corsa, which is what sold me on it.
