Default Fuel line disconnect, what is the trick?

On my way home from work I picked up the fuel line disconnect tool set, which is quite a rip off $12 for 6 plastic things! For the life of me I can't get the fuel line to disconnect at the rail with the tool! I'm using the 3/8" one and I hear a click and then it still won't come off. I've put a lot of pressure on the plastic tool and still nothing.

Not sure if that's the proper size. The right size will be the one that fits snug around the line. Then slide the tool down into the spring lock fitting while pushing the fitting against the line. This will ensure proper tool engagement. You will most likely feel or hear the fitting "snap" as it releases. Then pull the fitting off the line.

Al I had the same problem, I was using the white one, I had to use one size smaller, and use the light blue one....It should work then.

Yeah, the light blue one is the right one.

Here is a tip.

Push in a little on the fuel line while pushing out with the tool. It lets the clips unlatch a little easier. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Sometimes if you just push out with the tool the clips get kinda hung up and the fuel line will not come off. <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Its all about having the magic touch. I've never found a size that works easily every time. I'm sure its out there, but 3/8" is what gets me by each time. Wiggle, push, and pull and eventually it'll come off. Sometimes it disconnects in under 3 seconds, sometimes it takes 3 minutes. <shrug>

I used the 3/8" as well- after getting the thing off after a couple minutes of wiggling, I looked to see why it wouldn't come off in an easy manner. There are 4 clips on the inside that hold the fuel line on- when I put the disconnect tool in the line to see how it lined up, there's an EASY chance that one of the clips slips in the "crack" of the tool and doesn't disengage. As a test I put it back on and found that by slowly rotating the tool as you're trying to pull it off helps to get all 4 of them free.

hope that helps...

Hah. I used the plastic foot off a folding chair to get it off. Came off on the first try. Just cut the end off to make it a cylinder, and trim it to fit around the hose.

I use the 3/8" in tool also to get it. sometimes it comes right off then the others its just a bitch. I found that twisting the tool while on helps a bit. Also just for anyone looking to buy a set you can get them at Sears for like $8.

They also make a fuel line removal tool that is metal and has 5/16" on one end and 3/8" on the other. My metal one works better than my cheap plastic ones sometimes. I used the plastic fitting off a PCV valve the other day when my tools weren't available. Just cut it to proper length.
