im just making sure that you dont muck up my attempt to help someone who asked a serious question with your bs. you need to stop posting crap so this thread doesnt get locked. altho it probably should be, since the question has been answered by people that know what they are doing with a car, whether it be a v8 or a v6.

For the ten millionth time, I haven't said a word because our discussion is off topic. And can't you post at least once without a personal insult to me? Do you think calling me names is an argument?

"arguing with an idiot is pointless, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience"? i've taken this wayyyy too far, someone's gonna lock this thread if this BS keeps up. i'm done with this argument. good job so far russell, it's only going to get better for you. get some new dyno #'s and times up soon.

back on topic please.
not trying to start anything but im curious what he did for around 100.00 to run with lt1s? i want that mod that adds over 100 hp for 100.00 please share

Okay, let's check to see what your "arguments" consist of:

some musclehead who only likes beefy v8's and walks around putting everyone down cause they dont go as fast as me

you guys will still say i wasted my money, cause its a v6 and you are ********

ok now you are just being stupid.

if you read that carefully, and have more than a 3rd grade education (obvious you dont)

are you stupid? really. im serious. cause id like to know if im dealing with a window-licker here.

get over yourself.

you put things down because you dont understand them or are afraid of them

you would realize that your stupid little arguement was invalid.

again: get over yourself.

this guy doesnt have the brainpan to understand what you are trying to say to him. he's a brutish Neanderthal

he probably goes to import meets and laughs at them, and then runs screaming like a little girl when they all gang up on him and hand him his *** in a paper bag.

this guy is a complete toolbag. i really dont see the importance in talking to him anymore. i dont argue with idiots and so ive stopped talking to him

(black knight) - shut the **** up

$100 was for a set of grand am GT heads and intake plenum. he also bought a cam for the far also along with headers and a catback + cutout (full exhaust). that cost is not factored into the $100 as he was just specifying the top end swap. he just does the interal work himself so that saves a lot of money. the actual internal engine parts (minus the aftermarket camshaft, which is very mild btw) were $100 out of a junkyard.

all in all this jacked his hp rating quite a bit. paired with the reduced weight of the V6 cars and the very high weight of LT1 automatic convertibles, it was an even race.

a V6 that weighs 3300 lbs and makes ~225hp can run with a 3800 lb V8 that makes 285hp.

my friend had a - I believe - 99 camaro V6 - with some sort of lid / intake on it and dual exhaust.
Put up a better fight than a lot of other cars i'd raced with my old S-Trim 5.0.

see thats what no one gets. lighter car = requires less weight to go fast. my 3.4L V6 weighs less than your average LT1.

so therefore my car reacts better to hp/tq gains than a LT1 would, unless you lightened the car.

in addition to gaining 40+ hp / tq i also lost 150 lbs from the motor.

the numbers in teh sig are wrong, i havent updated the sig in a bit -- i have 185 rwhp / 212 rwtq. i havent taken the car to the track lately.

the 16.069 @ 84 mph, yes, was after most of the mods. i suxx0r @ 1/4 mile driving. before i did some of my upgrades, i had a 16.3 @ 83 mph, and a 16.5 @ 84 mph (notice what im saying about how i cant drive at the track?)

anyhow. i expect if i can tune/get a good run - to be in the mid / low 14s for now, and better pretty soon.

again. im not out to be as fast as i possibly can. im just workin with what i got.

i just want to throw in that 3.4L V6's dyno stock in the 120-130 rwhp range. a 185 rwhp dyno is about a 60hp increase of stock. along with being ~500 lb lighter than an automatic LT1 convertible, they should be close to neck and neck. what am i saying? he has a 14 second car on his hands, he just can't drive for ****

You have no idea how bad I want to lock this thread. Stay on topic or it is getting shutdown. Next name calling/bashing doesn't matter on whose account....locked.

wow i feel left out not posting in this thread...

first it looked like the external engine mod marker and now V8's vs. V6's

....mmmmm

for the better sounding V6.... pull the motor drop a V8 and run open headers, case closed

well i have a 97 camaro 3.8 as well and its cammed headers, heads done intakes done 3800 stall i believe the current gears are 3.73, its been a while since i drove it since i got the t/a but the camaro is gutted and everything and the best time i ran was 14.12@ 98mph i didnt know thats fast enought to beat an lt1, i know my 00 trans am i had before the vert ran 13.4@106 stock so my 3.8 certainly wouldnt touch that, i am speaking from experience it is very dissapointing spending about 6000.00 or so for a car that is only capable of high 13s all motor, wish i would have put that 6000 in the t/a i would have a sweet ride then and my 3.8 at idle sounds badass but certainly not like a v8 once you drive it.

We still haven't done her exhaust yet. I talked to her tonight, but the topic of discussion didn't have to do anything about cars. We were supposed to do this tomorrow, but she has to work. So, I'll keep you guys up to date with what she lands up doing.
