Not really sure if you pulled the threads out of the crank, or just cross threaded the bolt. If you pulled the threads, click on the link below. Check post #4 for the heli coil size you're going to need.

typically when that happens i believe people get a slightly longer than stock bolt to go in a tad farther, and key the crank/pulley so you know it is secure.

well right now the crank pulley is not on all the way so i guess i would need a shorter bolt to snug it up all the way then do the key thing?

You could also get your stock old bolt, grind down two sides, and use that to chase the threads. This could clean up the threads that and hopefully that will fix the problem.

i think i am just going to look for a 16mmx2.0 tap. anyone know where to find such a beast. i dont expect to have and machine shops open on a sat night or sunday. and is that the right size? i read of a tap that expands once in the hole, then you back it out. what would i ask for if i was looking for that type?

i believe you are supposed to use al onger bolt to pull the pulley close enough to get the regular bolt to catch all the threads without ripping them out...never heard anyone mention a shorter bolt...

yeah did the longer bolt thing, got it on far enough to do what i read which was crank the stocker on upwards to 200lbs than follow it with a new bolt at like 37lbs. we got the **** going with the original bolt and got to 200lbs but the pulley wasnt all the way on. took a lot of careful backing out and looked at the bolt ant 3 rows af threads are chewed up. so i am uber pissed. and thats where i am haulted right now. open to any adivce you guys have. rather not drill or do big fab work. just praying some angel says hey i got a tap and i'm 10min away.

you could try any tap with a 2.0mm pitch. just grab it and rotate it over the messed up threads. make sure the tap is far enough in that you can line up the tap with the good threads.

i have used this technique on crankshaft threads before. it takes time and patience, but it will eventually work.

keep this in mind: your situation might seem bad now, but if you're not careful, it can get A LOT WORSE, in a very short period of time. just take your time and keep a clear head. if you get that 16mm tap don't go running it in there right away with a lot of force, be gentle. same thing with the bolt. also, a new bolt is a good place to start.

i got everything straightened out last night. borrowed a tap for kunkel machine in the neighborhood and everything went smooth. pulled the pulley back off, tapped it, cleaned it, heated the pulley up a little on the snout, she slid on like budda. drove it around a good bit and didnt seem to show any issues at all. damn what a freakin relief!
