Default K&N FIPK guys check in... whining...

My car has the mods in sigs... plus !EGR and !AIR... and i actually removed the entire pump, like the whole setup in drivers side fender area. ... ne ways... ever since I installed my bbk 80mm and k+N fipk, the car has had a very noticable wining sound. Now i just installed the ls6 intake and the whine has gotten louder... to the point i can hear it inside car, and i dont have any catback, just dumped at the back axle (took the back of the SLP loudmouth off to take off my gas tank, and never put it back on) I'm wondering if anyone else has the same thing going on? at first i thought it was the air pumps, but since those are gone, it can't be. And the car idles fine so i don't think its a vacuum leak. It almost sounds a blower on there, like my buddys magnacharged GTO...

it is probably just the intake noise that you are not used to since it is flowing so much better now...but who knows?

It's hard to tell without hearing it firsthand.

When I still had the air system, when it would turn on after starting the car, I had a really noticeable whine, but as soon as it shut off, it went away.

Yeah, I still have air and the fipk and it does the same thing. I don't think it's anything to worry about. A sound clip would really help to be sure.

i'll have to get my video camera out there and tape it er something, i used to have the whine from the air pump as well, but i took that off and removed the whole setup from teh car, so i know it can't be that. On another note, when i first drove the car, it ran really smooth, now it seems to idle harder... think maybe its looking for the EGR and AIR ****? i'm thinking once i get my other parts installed i'll have to get it on a dyno

Yeah, I've heard that on the K&N CAI for the Durango.

Inhale through your teeth, with elephant lungs.

You'll get a whistling sound from the FIPK. You might have a leak somewhere from the filter back. I'd also check the egr block off plate ontop of the manifold and tb gasket as well.

I noticed my 2002 WS6 making a high pitched whine as well. It's not constant either, it comes and goes, doesn't affect idle. The car has 100K miles on it, has anyone heard of the intake gasket going out, possibly causing this high pitched whine? Seems to be more predominant when the car is cold.

I have an 02 camaro z28 with 32K and it wines when the throttle is barley open i think it is when the butterfly valve is open barley it tends to whistle because of the high volume of air moving through a small space. As soon as i get off the throttle it stops. I dont know if it is this is what your talking about or if it is the intake making the sound (I have a k&N FIPK). These kits will make your intake a lot louder. That is why GM put those Gay Resonators on the intake. However, if it seems to be driving and idling fine then it is most likely the normal sounds from the throttle and intake. If it is idling rough or slow response then you might have a leak.

Occasionally with the K&N FIPK when the cars kinda cold, if I get on it it sounds like a Cobra from the inside. A very noticable whine is emmited at low RPMs. I figured the Performance fairy came last night and threw a Kenne Bell on this bitch.

all those type of intakes make a whine.. even on little nearly stock imports. the filters really the cause of it, too small for the air going in.

Maybe it's just whining because it's not making enough power.
