Default Stock manifolds question..

I'd would rather hear this from people that have personal experience with this, so please, no speculation - unless you know someone that did this.

Track day (drag racing) is getting near, but I still have to fabricate a Y-pipe. So, yesterday I was thinking, "how about I just run it with the manifolds on?"

Which leads me to my question - If I just run the manifolds without cats, would that affect my motor in any way? If so, in which way? and does it sound like crap (sounds clips would be awesome)?

Maybe I should have been more specific; Exhaust Manifolds.

Care to explain why, other than "waking me from my dream"?

A long tube header is an exhaust manifold. Essentially you have stock exhaust manifolds, shorty, mid length and Long tube (LT's) headers. They all have different length primaries.

What type of headers are you running?

You can't do it with just stock manifolds because one of the o2 sensors is on the y-pipe.

I did post the "stock manifolds" though, but i'll be running MAC shorties.

O2 Sensors will be dealt with accordingly (rear will be deleted) and the front-right has been modified already.

I guess my real question is, Would it harm the engine if I ran it this way and if i will harm it, how?

thanks.

Why mids? Lt's are the answer, not for flow but scavenging. And yes you can run open headers, but you can also run duals (better sound and more tolerable db level) with no loss of flow or power. Check the sticky out in this forum on induction/exhaust mods. Read posts 6 and then 13 onwards, it should explain all you'll ever need to kow about headers and exhaust design.

do not run open shorties... you will potentially **** up your engine as the primaries are WAY too short

yea, plus with shorties your going to be letting all that exhaust out right in the engine bay, which if ran for a while will probally Screw something up due to the heat

well the responses to this question have been all over the place

let me get this straight.. you want to run exhaust manifolds only? if thats the case id say its a bad idea. if you gut the cats and then put the manifolds and the gutted cats on there it would probably be alright.

Because they are custom made for the LS1 RX7 application thus costing $800.
