Default Check out this exhaust

Hey guys, wanted some opinions on this exhaust set up. I have a 99 formula, whisper lid, 3.73 gears, M6 short throw, LS6 intake manifold, tuned. Here goes: Pacesetter ceramic coated LT's, 3' X-pipe, SLP loudmouth resonators dumped before the axle. I want to keep it legal so some carsound 3' high flow cats are in the plan as well....Opinions on sound? I am also going to dyno mat the interior so the loudmouths don't drown out EVERYTHING inside....Finally, would carsound 3' cats hold up to 500 or more horsepower?

ive never heard a set up with loudmouth resonators, i can only imagine extreme loudness considering my LM is lour with one resonator, LT's and ORY, some mororso sprial flows or some dynomax bullets would clean up the sound i think

I believe the LM set up is to run all the way out the back. Ihavent heard of anyone using it and dumping it. If you are going to that route, then you should just go with TD's with you high flow cats.....

If they are using an X it is TD's.

Personally I think it would sound pretty mean. Not to everyones taste, but alot would like it.

If you are pushing that level of HP you may want to consider metal matrix cats (Maganflow or Random Technology). They flow way better and will be less prone to breaking down. They are probably more compact as well. Down side is they are expensive by comparison.

If you want to know what dual LM resonators sound like try and find a clip of a Vette or GTO running them.

EDIT:

Due to limited space you will probably want the smaller LM resonators. They make them in two sizes. The regular Fbody one is the large one as it has to cater with exhaust gases from 8 cylinders. The GTO/Mustang LM resonators are more compact as on a dual setup each resonator only has to deal with gases from 4 cylinders.

These are listed on SLP's website under GTO -> exhaust

BTW - If you are after a deep muscle car sound an H pipe would probably serve better. And in reality the HP difference will not be important. An X-pipe will sound more racey and exotic.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the opinions/advice. I have already procured a set of the GTO/Stang LM resonators for $150 . The H pipe is now a definite substitute, I wasn't for sure about the real difference in gains, but now I've seen some comparisions and I want the better sound instead of 3-7 extra ponies. Anyone know if those metal matrix cats can pass emissions?

Probally sound really good, but it would probally be cheaper just to get some glasspacks, they will eventually burn themselves out and are a hell of a lot cheaper the the SLP resinators

Yes metal matrix cats are awesome. Random Technolgy make them as do Maganflow. You'll want the 3" inlet/outlet ones. They are expensive. But flow better than most mufflers so should have pretty much no affect on flow and HP.

With tuning, you will (or at least you can ) pass a sniffer test or a plug in OBD test, but if your state has a visual (or roadside spot checks) you're f***** with that setup.

EFI Live or HP Tuners. Don't waste money on a hand held.
