a police report and/or a collision inspection has to be filed on it for it to show up.

so if someone decides to fix it themself or takes it to a backwood collision shop, it's not going to get reported and never shows up on a CarFax...

so for the general public, it's not crap - it can at least tell you something most of the time. for those other times, it's obvious that a nitwit tried to make the repairs. you'll never be able to know EVERYTHING about someone else's car.

Something just doesn't seem right about the whole thing. Why would someone go through the hassle of swapping the wiring harness, installing EGR ect. on a car if they blew the motor? Granted it's an older LS1 but it just sounds like they were trying to hide somthing and passing the car off as a origional 02 LE. Have you verified it an authentic LE car?

If I blew the motor in my SS and could get a hold of a 99-00 LS1..great! But I wouldn't install the full EGR system, go through swapping the wiring and I surely wouldn't keep the LS1 intake, manifolds... and sell the better stuff. Hell, how much could you get out of a blown LS1 anyways? Something's fishy! I say get a lawyer.

If a shop did the swap, I could understand all the wiring and egr. If they pulled the motor out the bottom, the wiring would come with it. Installing a complete dropout from an earlier model, everything would still be bolted up (including egr and wiring harness). Ecu wouldn't know any different, the egr pins are just left empty on 01-02.

like i said pm me and ill give you the vin # for my totaled car

i bet someone had a cam and stuff in the motor and when the went to sell it just put a whole diffrent motor in it. the only thing id be upset about is the fact that you dont have good oil return, id be replacing the heads, cam, intake, timing chain and oil pump anyways haha

heres an idea that hasnt been thought off... maybe a hardcore hot rodder dropped his 427 C5R with big stuff 3 stand alone in the car and raced the hell out of it (if its a true LE that would make sense)

sounds to me like your car has had some major mods done to it in the past... check your rear end, check your torque arm, check your fuel pump check all the rear suspension.

my buddys dad bought a 2002 black on black WS6 from the dealership thinking it was stock. it always ran a little funny and things had been tampered with...upon closer inspection we found an inline fuel pump, BMR subrames, moser 12 bolt, BMR torque arm, BMR LCA's, full suspension with drag springs, modified engine compartment, and spots where you could see where a blower or nitrous system had been bolted to the head at some point in time.. hehe

BULLSHIT...the year is burned into every 98-02 fbody pcm and the vin is in all 99-02 pcms...get it read with anything from hptuners or efilive & you'll see whats up. Takes 5 seconds to do an infolog with hptuners which will give you that info

foff is 100% correct.. your vin is burned into your pcm, with HP tuners it is possible to reburn the VIN in the event of a fried PCM if i remember right?

but... one thing thats confusing.. if its a dealership replacement part it CANT have a vin burnt into it.. so if you dont have GM do the labor on it then technically you would be driving around on a PCM with either a dummy VIN or no vin whatsoever.

"Upon Closer Inspection..."

Yeah, those things can really elude the casual observer when looking over the car.
