Angry How in the HELL does my 02 have EGR

So I just installed the headers on my 2002 ss, and I swear I just removed the EGR system. The little pump at the front of the passenger side head, a tube to the passenger side intake manifold, and a tube to the intake. HOW IN THE HELL IS THIS **** ON MY 2002 SS. I am looking at pics of ls6 intakes and i dont see a hole for that damn pipe. (so i am thinking i got an ls1 intake) The plug for the pump is also in the wiring harness. Did someone swap the engine and harness. WTF is going on. Someone offer insight.

Sounds like either someone swapped engines or you don't have a 2002.

Interesting how your car has the painted top just like the v6's. All of the SS and Z28's I know of have the painted black top that sits inbetween the t-top area and rear glass.

EGR definetely shouldn't be there, and tube to the intake? 02's should have the LS6.

Well I tore all that stuff out. I cut the tube going to the plate on the intake and pluged that hole. I guess I could take pics of all the crap i took out and my rigged up plug in my intake.

I don't understand, that's definitely EGR? Ran your VIN through www.lonestarthunder.com (not official GM) but it comes up as an '02?

that comes up as a 2002 Z28 VIN... I'd say if you're not the original owner than someone messed around with things. I think it could be more plausible if it was an early 01 model and they had a few 00 setups, even then I think it's unlikely. start checking casting numbers on the intake, heads, block, etc. and see what's up with those. Get someone with HP Tuners or another program to see if the PCM's VIN matches the car's and see if the computer is an 02 computer.

Yeah I knew it was an 02 for sure because my insurance card pulls make and model by vin. I am so pissed. I know the motor is not a 98 motor because of the coil packs. But what really pisses me off is I have no idea the actual mileage of the engine.

Ask your local dealership to run the VIN for you and see if there's any history.

I haven't looked at the pics you posted. But are you sure it's EGR and not AIR that you have?

Failing that. If it is indeed EGR then logicaly it leaves only a few possibilities:

1. An oddball car from GM using up old parts (probably unlikely, unless it was one of the last 02's and they wanted to get rid of parts lying about the factory).

2. Your car is a ringer with a false ID.

I doubt very much someone would swap in an ealier engine and change the loom. It would be more work than its worth.

That is definitely odd... then again this is GM we're talking about Don't thnk I've ever seen an '01-02 with EGR (my manifolds both intake and exhaust look EXACTLY like that and I have an '00). Wierd...

Easy solve on your mystery... If you're the second owner or other than original owner, evidently the engine was swapped to 99-00 engine or the vin was swapped which is ILLEGAL.
