Many of the LT1 systems had it too, the 2OTL.

Yep your right thats the other one. Apparently, the Cone of Silence refers to the 2OTL and the Ring of Silence refers to the Dual Dual.

There is very little information on the internet about either of these, and most of the info is about the Cone of Silence. Very little on the Ring.

I had to do a lot of searching on various forums to piece it together and get a good understanding.

And the only info I've gotten so far about removing it is at the top of this thread by Warp10.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to remove it. So if anyone has additional info in that regard, it would be greatly appreciated.

Last question... Did you notice any difference in performance due to better flow and was it louder after the ring was removed?

Thanks for your help,
Steve
Yep. Cut the pipe about 1" off the muffler on the driver side and had it rewelded. The passenger side pipe is not restricted. I had it removed back in 2004 I believe. I couldn't even fit my pinky in that whole. Could you believe it...

I didn't notice any power gain and I don't have a before and after dyno, but I did notice a sound change. From my research back then, I found out that GM requested this added and SLP complied. Not sure if it's even worth trying to blame anyone since it is fairly easy to remove.

What the Hell??!! Dual/Dual is relatively quiet, unless your going WOT down your street, 'cause then it sounds real good!

Back on topic, is their any other way to remove the Ring of Silence other than cutting the pipe? And how do I know if I have it or not??

I don't think the WS6 came with the SLP Dual Dual. I think the Stock WS6 is different. Don't know if it had it or not. Is your left tailpipe always clean on the inside or you can always try to stick a clothes hanger up there and see if it get hung before the muffler.

I noticed mine at very cold weather. There was more white smoke from the passenger side compared to the driver side at idle.

Here is where I cut the pipe.

Oh so you did it with the muffler on the car. I was debating on whether or not to remove the muffler. I want to minimize my down time.

This is awsome, thanks.

i can't believe so many people on this site didn't know about the ring of silence GM mandated SLP put it on because the exhaust was too loud on flyby tests. for some reason, it's not a big performance killer?

the GM installed Y2Y SLP Dual/Dual's had it, but the aftermarket one that you bought from SLP didn't. that was the cause for their "more powerful" muffler.
