I'm still trying to figure out the best way to remove it. So if anyone has additional info in that regard, it would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't notice any power gain and I don't have a before and after dyno, but I did notice a sound change. From my research back then, I found out that GM requested this added and SLP complied. Not sure if it's even worth trying to blame anyone since it is fairly easy to remove.

I noticed mine at very cold weather. There was more white smoke from the passenger side compared to the driver side at idle.

i can't believe so many people on this site didn't know about the ring of silence 
GM mandated SLP put it on because the exhaust was too loud on flyby tests. for some reason, it's not a big performance killer?
the GM installed Y2Y SLP Dual/Dual's had it, but the aftermarket one that you bought from SLP didn't. that was the cause for their "more powerful" muffler.
