TheLS1Kid - i used kooks headers, but pacesettters might work, but im sure the quality of the kooks headers far exceed the pacesetter headers. sorry i dont have the sound clip up yet, the car is getting the final tune done to it, so as soon as it comes back this weekend, i will post up a sound clip.

There is also a slip joint just before the two pipes go over the axle. Will probably have to take most of the system out to remove the trans.

you could ask the same question for another part of most tru-dual systems. what's the point of having duals if it comes together at the x-pipe? in this instance, it helps to make more power. once the two sides of the motor intersect, it's no longer seperated.
true duals, when first created about 50-60 years ago, never came together. that's what you call 'true' duals. the name true duals came about in the late 70s to early 80s because of the lovely single in dual outlet mufflers on the f-bodies. people would call it fake duals because of the two outlets, but only one pipe coming from the motor. hell, my 79 z28 had a y-pipe, then branched off just before the axle into two mufflers, then over the axle and out from the factory.

Hello all, the reason for the x-pipe is very important in a true dual system. The main purpose of the x-pipe is it actually works as a venturi in the motor. To simply describe it, as the exhaust is comming out of one side of the motor and works through the headers and exhaust, as it gets to the x-pipe it actually helps to pull the exhaust from the otherside of the motor and release it through the rest of the exhaust, therefore making more power because there is less restriction and escaping faster and easier. It also quiets down exhaust somewhat as well. It is also good for equalizing the pressure between the 2 sides, but the main importance of an x-pipe is how the venturi work in making more power. So if you want a bad *** true dual system, and make the most power out of it, you need to have a x-pipe in the system, otherwise your just loosing power.

Welll not one hundred percent accurate but very nice explanation on what it does. Some people prefer and h pipe for the difference as to where the increased power is. Torque for the low end which is gained with the h pipe and hp with the x pipe. So your not really leaving power on the table just one thing is for sure a lack of a balance pipe x or h is loosing power.

I"d agreew with all of that, except for the lack of h or X pipe causes a loss of power.
I guarintee removing all exhaust off the end of the headers will make the most power, providing the tune is properly adjusted for this type of setup. If it wasn't the case, then I think about 50 years of drag racers have been doing the wrong thing, which I find hard to believe.
