I have every confidence that if you'll talk to Jayson he'll get you straightened out even if you don't spend $3000 there.

I agree, the '98-'02 MAF's are all the same I have checked my '98 with a friends '02, but I do know people who have gained with a 85mm MAF! why? I have no idea but in my case it worked as well, it just seems that some cars respond well to the 85mm MAF where as some gain nothing and others even loose HP we may never know why!

Yup, I have a 00 and a 02, and the stock MAF is the same on both cars..

I don't know how all of these guys are measuring 85mm, unless they are mesuring OD, and not taking the MAF internals into account..

Yeah, but

Like you said... it improves(in my case) the timing... a place where 2001's need a little help. I saw 7rwhp and 9rwtq by just changing the MAF ends.

GMS gave me no RWHP but did give me 10RWTQ.
BBK TB gave me 1RWHP and 4 RWTQ.Man, I love torque...
BBK TB was with GMS, didn't test it with the stock
TB.

Like I said, I am not trying to bash. The things I said were from my own personal experience. And I do agree that there are many people who always say MTI this MTI that, but I think its kinda strange I live in houston and have never met any of them. Like I said, all these MTI fans have either strokers or h/c. Now as far as that stuff goes MTI very well MIGHT be the best, but for something like a tb I would say go elsewhere.

No hard feelings,

MTI installed a Corsa exhaust and a carbon air lid for me right after thanksgiving. The service was great, the mechanic who installed the parts was meticulous and it only took 2 hour! To say the least I was very pleased.

It worked for me!
Look at the dyno results I have got.
All dynos were made back to back.

1) Heads, cam (215/221), stock PCM (look at the sig for more detail) = 360 rwhp

2) Like the above + SLP MAF = 361 rwhp

3) Like (1) + HPP3 = 377 rwhp

4) Like (1) + Hpp3 + SLP MAF = 391 rwhp

I installed a GMAFS and went too rich, they sent me a 5% lean unit & i'm now running a 13.2-4 a/f. It changed my et. from 13.12 to 12.90. BOB

Everything else was the same in testing. Air was nearly identical. O2s were .900mv in both MAFs (stock, unported, screenless MAF), timing was 26 degrees in both applications. L-Trims were at 0% for both MAFs. Everything was the same except for the physical size of the MAFs.

I guess this goes to show that a 400 rwhp motor does not need any more airflow than the stock unported MAF will give it. Any gains by running a ported MAF most likely will come from additional timing or getting a more ideal a/f ratio. Sorry for the bad news. I was hoping for at least 5 rhwp gain. Good thing I borrowed the 85mm MAF and MAFT from Judson. I would be pissed to spend all this money to go the same speed or slower.
Id think you’d need to open up the entire intake tract to 85mm to see the difference. I only get about 75mm measuring a stock ls6 Tb and intake so that’s still the bottleneck

It is kinda funny though, we found out the larger/ported MAFs are completely useless for most folks back in 2001 and yet people still keep using them.

You get the feeling Pat G's info, like much common sense, is timeless. I think here we are working with physics laws, which are irrefutable.
