I had my Z on jack stands and put my hooker headers on my 454 with a stock k-member and it only took me about 3-4 hours. This also included alot of cutting and grinding because I was trying to use the stock k-member in my BBC swap. I've since changed to a BMR k-member and I could probably change them both in a hour.

Theres no way I'd pay $500 for a header install. By the tools, jack stands, ramps whatever you need keep a few hundred and enjoy yourself one Saturday morning. You'll be crusing by lunchtime if you start early enough. Heck with the money you save you could relace your whole exhaust.

Well if the shop uses book time and they pay there tech that time no matter how long it takes him it makes sense. Billable time is a good way to work if your fast. Our shop in Cali charges 82.50/hour and bill of book time. It's not that uncommon.

Look for competition between shops in your area--should be able to find an install that way talking to the shops for around $200 for a good deal, if they are familiar with the fbody.

I used to live in Chesapeake, my uncle has a lift at his house and is a mechanic. I can see what he would charge, he lives off of George Washinton Hwy. I did mine myself and took about 4 and a half hours. He has a bad 70 Camaro that he runs at northeast dragway. A stroked 400 on alcohol, 6.1x in the 1/8th.
