Default Which exhaust setup? What would you choose?

Ok, heres the deal. I am going to add nitrous and a cam to my car. I have Long tubes,y-pipe,and 3" catback. The 3" catback will suport 370hp without any loss. However, when I get a cam I will be hopeing for over 370hp. Then when I add nitrous I will definatly be over 370hp. So I will want to do something with my exhaust to be able to suport the hp efficiently without any loss. I have 3 different ideas. Pick which one you guys would do and why. Thanks

Thats what I was thinking. A cutout right after each header. But what if I wanna close them? I will just be flowing through a 3". Actually, when I have the cutouts closed I would be just on the cam so the 3" cat back might not be that much of a restriction. Hmmmmm?

Go True Duals. Not only will it sound good always, it will make more hp and tq than a cutout and ypipe and you can rest assured you're running the best possible exhaust for your ls1.

Well you can do 1 of two things, you can get electric DLH cutouts (best electric cutout out there IMO) or you can get manual cutouts and uncap them when you know you are going to race or go to the track. I had a magnaflow on my old camaro and Don at Dez Racing said the magnaflow is by far one of the best flowing catbacks out there so you will not be losing a ton of HP running it through the catback. I personally would gut the cats though if I were you and run it straight through the magnaflow. If you listen to the clip in my sig its of headers/ory/magnaflow with my 232/238 cam and it is pretty tame at idle but sounds awesome at WOT. If your going big cam the cats are going to rob you more power than going through the magnaflow catback.

Yup, i'm sure its the beat overall flowing but, the gains in my eyes dont really seem to out weigh the cost. But i'm not sure yet. I would need to find some info that will convince me that after I add nitrous and cam that the duals would BY FAR be a big gain in power over any other settup. Its still an option but I have my doubts that it would be worth it to spend that much for 10 rwh when I could be getting 2 cutouts for cheap and still be improving my flow.

I would probly get 2 manual cutouts to save on $ and because if I know i'm gonna race its not a big deal to just open them before.
CATS!?!? Whats stinking cats?!?! I have no cats dynatech makes 2 little straight peices to bolt right in place of the high flow cats. So the cats are ni issue.
Now if I went with this settup, the " TRUE DUALS GUYS " would say thats i'll make more power with them than cutouts. But how much? Probly wouldnt even be worth the $ to get duals. Is there even any real data on TRUE DUALS VS CUTOUTS?

Yea there is no way a true dual system is going to out flow or produce signifcant power over dual cutouts. Also I forgot about the supermaxx system having the bolt in straight pipes, that solves that problem!

I disagree. Dual cutouts do not scavenge, whereas True Duals with xpipe will scavenge, thus creating more tq.

ok, so they create more torque. but would the money be worth it? How much for a td vs cutouts?

That's up to you and your budget. To me True Duals/Exhaust is one of the most important mods you can do to any car, I would want to spend as much money as I felt comfortable doing to establish the best possible foundation for modding. Everything else is dependent on how good is your exhaust.

2.5 true duals FTW because of all the people that have done the exact same thing and been very happy. Sounds great, makes great power, no cats either. boo ya

Right I understand that, thats why i said it wouldnt be a significant amount of HP left on the table by going with the dual cutouts over true duals. I think it might matter more on a big CI setup, but on a stock ci cammed ls1 I dont think it wouldnt matter enough to spend hundreds of dollars on duals over 60-70 dollars for two stainless cutouts. Thats JMO though.

Yeah thats what i'm getting at. Sure, it would have been nice if I had planned on getting true duals in the first place but I didnt......I got the system I have now. I would have to spend...what, like 1000 for stainless 2.5" duals? It just dosent even out or even come close to buying 2 cutouts for what, 50.00 a piece or something? I mean, what would I be gaining with the duals over the cutouts 10rwh? If I wanna make the difference in power all I have to do is give my car some more nitrous. After all, i'll be saving so much cash from just buying the cutouts i can spend on more nitrous or put it somewhere else that will make that 10rwh for 1000 look stupid. I think it would be just wise to go with cutouts. Is there any actual real data that really shows you gain power over cutouts by going to duals?

Go with the cutout and keep comfortable driving...check out my recent dyno comparing superturbo to cutout just before axle. This is also with a bullet in the I-pipe.
