Default Filter Mag???

I haven't researched it yet, but does anyone use one? It's essentially a magnet that clamps onto the oil filter. At a minimum, I have a magnetic drain plug on all of my cars. Luckily, LS1 F-bodies have that from the factory.

Seems like kind of a gimmick to me, shouldnt the filter you use pick up most of the metal going through your oil system? And if the filter can't catch it will the metal pieces really be big enough to do a whole lot of damage. They make one for the fuel filter too, are there really metal pieces in the fuel tank that need to be picked up? I don't think so.

If you're filter is getting clogged with metal every 3k miles, you need to save your money for a new motor.

Yea IMO its a waste of money, if you have metal in your oil system every 3 K thiers not goin to be anything you can do to fix it besides a new engine

Good filter, frequent oil changes, are the best....although, these products are extra protection..thought about getting one, and then forgot...may still pick one up one day.....

I don't see it hurting anything if you just wanna spend the money on one.

engines will always have friction. extra insurance isnt a bad thing, besides even if you change your oil frequently. you dont get every ounce of the old out.

seeing as it wont pick up bronze or aluminum babbet material from the bearings, block material, piston, or even get any decent sized piece of ferrous metal (needle bearings etc) through the pickup screen, i'd say its not worth it. The filter does a good job by itself.

well... remember the LS1 is an aluminum block/heads... alum. shavings aren't magnetic, so there is no need for that unless you got an iron block.
