although a good design.. you have limited the surface area of the lid to a smaller portion of the filter element.. which "might" make it harder for the engine to pull since there is less area to "suck" from.. it looks to be like 60% or so is eliminated from the suction surface area..

how so? you reduced the available air by a considerable amount of area space on the filter.. and resulting in more force put on taking it from a smaller area..

kind of like you trying to breath through a McDonalds straw while breathing normally.. you have to work harder at it because the area to breath from has decreased.. you still get the amount you need.. but the amount you need is harder pull..

its just like he added a smaller air filter instead of a stock one...doesnt matter if the opening on the end is 90mm or 200mm.. of the suction area decreases you're making it harder to pull air..

what about us under the car raim air guys? the ram air slot opening that goes to the lid would be somewhere near the middle/back of that lid where it looks like 50% of the air wouldnt make it

Even though this may not work, I give you kudos for thinking outside of the box. People like you are what contribute to innovative new products. No one is ever gonna get everything right everytime.

you're on the right track.. im not knocking your thought process by any means at all.. just needs to be tweeked a bit to take full advantage of the air filter.. you could sweep those lines a bit, make them more bell shapped to open up the filter area..

i dont think i have ever met anyone that their 1st design of anything was the correct version.. just play with it and see what you can come up with.. i wish i had the knowledge and software to run and opperate that CAD equipment..

im telling you man make one dyno it and see how it goes, then try my idea and see how it goes. we may have something. you can have my idea if you want it but if you make some decent money i want $100 from it and you can keep the rest of it as long as ig et some credit for helping you think of it

HIGHLY Recommend looking into sponsorship if you keep soliciting business here.

I did this exact same project during my senior year at the U of M after I learned how to use Pro-E and Ansys CFX. All I got out of it was a cool looking 3D fluid flow diagram. Although I did actually have a mold cut and one run off, you really cant get much better flow than what we already are getting unless you redesign the entire intake system.

I agree. You need more exposed filter area, not less.

Reducing the volume of the lid is goig to hurt flow. No offense but the R&D on lids was done by MTI almost 10 years ago. The lids we have now are what works. You are wasting your time.
