Some shops will and some won't. It depends upon whether they think they have the potential to get fined or not.

After finding a shop that will is to know if they do a good job of of welding. Ask around or post on a local forum if you have one. Ask to see their work before you let them screw up your $500 exhaust.

Tip: There's lot's of vibration in your exhaust so Loctite Blue every screw on the electric motor and opening mechanism and seal every crack and seam with sealant (that's if you drive in the rain and/or snow). The screws on the plate on some units have a tendency to vibrate loose.

I had the whole job done for $100 (I supplied the DMH cutout). Just a local guy that works for a guy with an '02 SS. I'm going back there for him to put on my Pacesetter lt's, Magnaflow muffler and to make me up a custom Y!!!.

I don't think anyone should have a problem with welding this in - nothing illegal unless it's open!

I actually should get a sound clip before I mod w/ the headers and muffler. I'll try and snag one tonight so I have a comparison.

I originally had mine under the rear pass. seat, but after lowering the car, ground clearance became an issue with the cutout and my turndown tip. I moved it to where 32of32 has his. Worked out nicely. I just bought a pair of 2.5" header collector reducers and used one of them, still have one in the garage.

This is EXACTLY what the system I made up consists of. My cutout sits directly under the passenger side rear seat. I wired it to my driver's seat and am using the power off the seat. Works GREAT and is tons of fun! I was thinking about making myself a set of true duels...but after adding the electric cutout, I don't see the point. I feel that the 3 1/2 pipe is not a restriction when the cutout is open.

Thanks 32of32. That was a quick post. i think I am going with 3. Cant wait. I think my exhaust sounds soft right now. You think I will gain 10rwp with a cutout on a H/C cam car? lol

Wouldn't #2 be the easiest? Just right in the middle of the I-pipe.

I'm doing my right before the muffer so it shoots straight back and it's also going to have a turn down so I don't burn any paint under the car off. It will be quiet in the cabin, but loud out back. I had one under the car at the end of the I pipe and it's too loud inside. I also drove with open Y for a month. It's fun at first, but gets old real quick. I'm also going to pick up a power plate.

Not to hijack, however would there be any advantage to having two cutouts mounted on each side of the y-pipe before it gets to the i-pipe? I was considering that setup, however ground clearance might be the issue.

For the guys that chose option #1 with LTs and an ORY, do you get a ton of rasp, or it is just a nice, screaming loud sound?
