The AIR system on mine was a self contained unit that didn't seem to use vacuum or anything else off the car besides some power.

What year is your vehicle Jrp?

No problem.

as for how much it weighs... from memory i think it was around 4-6lbs for just the pump unit, another 2-3 for the hose and exhaust pieces.

What does that line connect to? Why can't it also be removed?

Nice information, +1 on the write-up. I think I may end up doing this now that I know that it's just the EGR that requires the computer work. Guess that will have to stay until I can get a tune, but might be looking into doing the !air soon.

Just thought that i would toss this up and help out anyone that was looking at doing it but not sure on where everything ran.

Its a really simple removal once you see were everything is running.
It will throw a code after a few driving cycles, if it doesn't, your SES light may be broken lol. I left everything on mine, minus the pipes connected to the exhaust. I had the pump still attached and running (just blowing air into the engine bay), and the SES STILL came on.

Don't do this unless you can delete the codes. I've seen a FEW people post that their light didn't come on after deleting AIR, but post again later that it did.

Any clue why they would come on a while after removing them? Is the computer just taking time to adjust to the O2 sensors reading less or more of something?

I will let you guys know if the light comes on once i get it on the road.

Default Plug

On the driver side where the 2 3/4 inch hoses come together there is a black coupling that sits on the intake. At the top of this coupler there is a small vaccum hose t into i think map sensors vaccum. The hose plugs into the top of the coupler. I have a 2002 z

Can you still pass emissions after doing this? The place I go to normally doesn't pop my hood but I do already have one "not ready" and you can only have 3. If I had a place like HPE or MTI tune out and remove the AIR system, would it show up as a "not ready" also?

If you had them tune out the codes, you wouldn't have any problems. If they popped the hood, chances are, they wouldn't notice that something's not there. If they do, tell them you swapped in parts from a 'vette or something and didn't need the ports.

MTI did all my codes for me for $75.

vette parts FTW!

I'm having my whole tune redone at HPE soon so I hope they wouldn't charge extra for it

It appears that the emissions folks are a joke pretty much everywhere but CA... I took my uncle's car in the other day (I'm not usually in good humor when I take MY car in...) and I was kind of messing with the guy, and I asked him if he ever thought about the fact that, with the new OBD-II-only testing in Illinois, it's really easy for ANY car to pass very cheaply with simple program changes, even a car with all the emissions controls removed... He's like, "no, that's not possible, because even if you changed the program, that would cause a chain reaction that would cause such and such to happen and blah blah". Working for the EPA was obviously a big step up for him from flipping burgers.

My only concern is, we never used to have emissions testing here...then California got it, then we got it. What are the chances of the strict California visual inspection ending up over here someday? I don't worry about too many things...the government coming between me and my car is one of them.

Nice, I'm going to need this soon.

Question: If you are planning on getting race headers, can you delete AIR and EGR before you get the headers, should you do it while installing the headers, or is it okay to do it even after you have had the headers on the car for awhile?
