GM has a tool (socket) for it J-41712 - maybe whoever you buy the sensor from will let you borrow one?

yea i figured not to drive it too much, but it looks like half the sensor is still in there. wouldnt that act like a plug to stop it from leaking oil?

the leak would not be the problem. not knowing you had lost some/all oil pressure for what ever reason and driving that way would be the thing. better safe than sorry when it come to replacing motor.

I broke mine in half and it acted like a plug for the oil. If it was me I would not drive the car unless it was to get a new oil sensor and even then i would look for a ride. As stated before you need J-41712 tool to install the new sensor and it is worth the hour to remove the intake when reinstalling the oil sensor.

Same thing just happened to me when installing BBK intake. I removed the intake just to make sure everything was good. I have a 2000 z28 and found that the replacement sending unit (purchased from GM) was made of thicker plastic, the stock felt pretty cheap. If you havent already purchased a replacement, one member said that O'Reilly's sells them for bout $21 (GM charged me $58). And like everyone said, I would not risk driving on it until you get the unit installed, simply not worth the risk imo.

Add me to the broken oil pressure sending unit. I was installing my Professional Products intake. I got mine through GM for 27 with a commercial account.

Oh yeah, I wouldnt drive it for a just in case factor. Like if you did not have oil pressure and you would have no way of knowing it, like stated before.

I would not chance it. I just finished my intake swap tonight and broke my sending unit in the process. Just go up to the local auto parts store and get a replacement. The replacement seems much sturdier than the stocker...that thing seemed fragile as hell!

As far as your other question, I don't see how there is anyway to reach the sending unit with the intake on, but I've been proven wrong before on these cars.

There is a socket that you can get. My unlce has every tool you could ever need and he has one, but that doesnt help me because the intake is in the way I need to wait for a relocation kit first. Atleast thats what jim at pp says.

It's located behind the intake toward the driver side, the brake booster line can get caught on it when removing the intake and it will snap in half when you pull forward on the manifold

You should be able to fit your arm back there and feel it, but if your gauge is working I would say its not broken.

If it's pegged at 80, sending unit's busted. If it's begged at zero, your car is busted

I broke mine too last Saturday! @#$@! I ordered a replacement from Advanced AP for under 40 bucks and got out early from the hospital and swapped it out today in less than 1 hour. I removed the intake just enough to get to the sending unit and replaced it. This time I just disconnected the booster hose from the back of the intake and just put it back on after the intake was on. It is on there pretty snug so I doubt that it is coming off even with the clamp removed.

******* HATE that thing. Why did gm design it to be directly behind the intake manifold. Broke mine clean off swapping in an LS6 intake on my old firehawk. Had to overnight the part from SDPC. The shipping was more then the part itself.
