KurtRardin

Recent thread about the Bassani system I chose.

Do not know if that is out of your price range or not, or even if it would work for your application. Bassani has a good reputation, and you get mandrel bends and a system other people here have already vouched for.

Looks sweet, but I want something that will fit right over my headers. I've seen this kit for 750ish online before i think. Not too bad. But, I would like to have one meant for my headers.

For under-the-axle, I could see $250, if you have the parts. Best bet is to talk to your exhaust guy first, and talk to him about fbodies and true duals. See what he knows and doesn't know. THEN talk about a solution, and go for an estimate.

I would do this for at least a couple exhaust shops, to get a comparison. Also post in your regional forum for people who have had exhaust work done by specific shops. All the exhaust work I have done on my various cars were from places where I got a reference from someone who went there.

It wouldn't be outrageous to get an estimate for $600-700 for custom duals over the axle, if they are good, will fix any problems, and mandrel bend.

$800 for mine with no cats and dynomax bullit mufflers out a CME. 3" over axle and don't have any problems scraping or anything; its not cheap

You should post up a sound clip because that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing.

Do you have mufflers or is it straight pipe?

To be honest, I havent even actually considered going to a local exhaust shop to get an estimate. Im just going to wait until I can go to a shop that has done them before. I talked to a few of them on the phone and I could almost hear the grin over the phone...like "sure, bring it on down here and we'll rape you deliverance style. You want the speedbump-draggin floor-bumpin fuel line meltin dual kit, right? We know exactly how to hook you up!"

pics of what it took to get the bassani to hook to the dynatech headers.

bsf, No I didnt hold his daughter (if he even has one) hostage. I just ran into him a couple of times in town before the install and would conversate about doing the setup. Besides I live in a small town and since everyone down here brings their Fbodies to him he "discounts" all of us.
haystack71, as of right now its straight pipe but I like the way it sounds. Sounds mean, head turner and I dont have to raise my voice just to conversate inside the car. I might go back though and run it all the way back under the axle. As far as local shops go, it be best to ask around and see how familiar they are with x-pipe installs. I was gonna bolt the kit right up and he wouldnt let me, he modified it a lil and it came out perfect! I think I would have been screwed if he would have just been looking to put them on and get paid. It would have been waaaay to low.

I got the TSP duals and had a local exhaust shop run under axle tailpipes for $135. I'm pretty happy with it.

How does it sound with the system running all the way to the back? Is it loud loud or juuuust right. What about interior sound? $135 is too bad, see there are some bargains out in the world after all.

How do duals compare to the noise level of a catted Y pipe with no cat back? Interior? Exterior?

I'm familiar with this sound because one day my LM decided to come apart on the interstate ...

I know the sound quality of the duals would be a lot better, mainly because of the expensive mufflers...but might it be louder in the car with the addition of turndowns?

I ran an open ory once on my car disconnected from the lm and it sounds ok imo but it gets annoying after awhile, inside as well. Right now my exhaust is just a straight up x-pipe, no turndowns and no mufflers. It sounds similar to open headers but not as bad, for some reason its not as loud inside the car as I would have thought, I can hold a conversation without shouting or anything like that. Everyone around here seems to like it and Im actually happy with it. I like it better than when I had my lm connected to my y. As for mufflers and an x-pipe I cant help you there. Sorry

I would really like to get duals now, but I just dont want to risk having a crappy setup done by someone that hasnt ever done it before. I think I am going to wait until i get a torque arm, and then have someone do it in Alabama (moving there in Dec). Theres got to be someone who has done F body work in AL.

For now, i think i might get this used 3.5" dual exit spintech setup with a cutout in the I pipe. Its used and pretty cheap. Cheap enough to where i think i can get my moneys worth back out of it later and go for some duals. I'm just in a situation where i want to get as far away from my LM as possible before it desides to leave me while im on the interstate.

I went back to the shop that quoted me $525 and asked about going with an x pipe dumped at the axles and me supplying the mufflers.... $500...

Somebody tell me how that makes sense!?
